Today....full disclosure or maybe a confession. By definition, i’m jaded with hats. I do love hats and i really love nice hats. Mine or your’s makes little difference, i appreciate, even relish seeing a good hat. They do not have to be top dollar pieces or coveted grail birds but that helps.
I blessed myself with an excess of hats that exceeded my ability to do them justice, meaning realistically being able to wear them much less share them here. I find myself grabbing the same dozen or so hats day after day, all day, every day with little regard to many coveted ones in view. I guess i do not possess the necessary collector’s endurance and have evolved into hoarder. I’m on the lounge constantly since day one and truly enjoy every hat i see and especially the stories etc that some share with their prizes. Thank you each and every one for that.
I am not trying to be pretentious, please forgive me if it seems so.
I guess i felt the need to say this as i don’t contribute as often and wonder if other’s haven’t been of the same mind.
Anyway....today i’m sharing a skinny ribbon, raw edge, 50’s Stetson One Hundred with the little hundred guy pin that came in a case just as nice.
Perfect in every way except not worn enough.
Ok...back in my cave.

Day 28 of 31 Hat Parade: Getting down to the wire! Soon, I will no longer be bothering folks with my little obsession. I realized in going through the parade that I have neglected the American Derby. Classified as a stiff felt dress hat, the Derby (Bowler in European manufacture) has been around almost as long at it's counterpart on the continent. Every man had a Derby and probably a Boater straw for summer. One of the earliest hats in my collection is the "Dunstatter" Derby. Like many vintage hats, it's life had been long and hard. The only clues to the age was the original store where the hat was purchased, Dunstatter (I assume Men's Store) Richmond Hill, NY. The logo of manufacture was gone from the insides. Being the industrious historian I am, I researched this store. It actually closed in 1918, so this hat is over 100 years old at least. I had Mike Miller from NW Hats replace the tattered sweat band and install a liner just for good measure. When I need a black Derby to wear for living history at our local historical society, it is my go-to hat.

This week I will feature P. & C. Habig Wien & Berlin Hats. The hats will be from the 1920s up to the 1950s.

P. & C. Habig Wien "Special Qualität" Seiden (Silk) Zylinder Hut (Top Hat), Production Year 1934 (based on Paper Label). The workmanship is of very high quality with fantastic Brim work and Silk Plush application. The Off White Sweatband and Interior create a striking contrast with the Black Under Brim material. The brand, size plus overall near mint condition makes this a rare find. As an added bonus it came with a very unique Carrying / Storage Case.

Mounted on the Case Pedestal, Here you can see the High Gloss and Mint Condition of the Silk Plush.

The Case was designed for carry / storage and not shipping.

Borsalino Ludoita Qualita Extra Superiore In Crema (Cream) Color
5 inch open crown
3/8 inch Silvery bone tri cord thin ribbon
3 inch brim with 1/8 matching binding
1 7/8 Supple brown leather sweatband.

My latest arrival Borsalino Qualita Extra Superiore Ludoita model in beautiful Crema (cream) color. This hat... if it were here during the original 30 Days to 30 Hats would have beyond a shadow of a doubt had a prominent position. It is in the styling of Stetson Open Road - thin ribbon matching skinny edge binding. And the felt very high quality super smooth And velvet touch without being a fuzzy type finish. It is not the super thin “blow a crease into it” felt of my Stetson Standard Quality. It is more of a Thicker luxurious dress weight Felt. That being said I put it through some paces with a few different creases and it handled them like a champ. From a basic center dent with soft front pinch... to a modified cattleman’s crease.. to a quick deeper diamond bash with strong side dents. It took it all in stride. It seemed to love the Cowboy shape. So we will see.

This hat had an original selling price of $25 and had some sort of cushion system behind the rear of the sweatband

@steur indicates this one to be of mid 1950’s to early 1960s. Thank you Stefan for that info and apparently forgetting to bid on this one. I see a few of these have been posted on the lounge over the years. But not many

This hat took its sweet time in arrival. Due to a mix up in shipping it made a pit stop in Minnesota (no not to see Eric @Short Balding Guy). And in the mean time I received the Minnow Bucket that was meant to go to MN. It did not fit... so I decided to hold out for this big fish. Thank goodness the owner of the minnow bucket did not use the hat. For that purpose. And now it all right with the world.
