Have a good Friday

Michael
They knew what they were doing though. Thanks for the likes on the French hats, Michael.
Back from a late morning jaunt around my neighborhoods. I took in a Zoom mtg. while walking. "Never let a crisis go to waste," a quote acredited to Winston Churchill.

I wore a Royal Stetson with a tan/camel hued felt bound in a matching shade bound edge and a snappy sage green ribbon/bow. I like this "casual" colored hat as it works so easily with my attire. Royal usually indicates hats of a moderate or less price point. I beg to differ with this fedora.

For a relatively inexpensive price this hat has clever unique edge treatment. The brim edge is folded over and has a stitch to hold it down. The stitch is well executed. I started to count the stitches per inch, but the stitches are taught without being to tight that they blend into a flat surface. I am struck by the likeness of a closed channel shoe. This is not anything like it, but the execution is clean and makes a smooth surface. No pulling of the felt by too tight stitching. This is a lot of words to say that it is well done.

Grand offerings today Stefan.
Thanks, Alan. Have been wondering which maker made the Sools branded one.

Spring lasts about three weeks here, but it’s glorious while it lasts.

My photos today were taken in Agua Fria:

Great colour on that one, Brent. Almost peachy.

Green with empathy...

One of the facets of collecting vintage hats that intrigues me is the memory of stores past, imprinted for posterity on the leather sweatband. I wonder how many of my hats (I have quite a few) were sold in stores that are still in existence today? Or were in existence a month ago? Off the top of my head I can think of two - one is a hat pulled out to wear today.

I later switched to this Mallory:

Both exquisite as always, Alan. Have to give it to the Mallory though.

A quick trip out to the post office today to mail a Homburg and some aquarium plants. I just grabbed the first one off the go-to pile, the Resistol 880 fell into my hand. The change over to straws being on the shelf is on my list of things to do. Been spending way too much time on Facebook of late, getting back to the family here is also one of my goals.

30 Days to 30 Hats - Day 24
Cavanagh with Cavanagh Edge

View attachment 230373
Black Cavanagh with Cavanagh Edge
4 1/4 crown (at highest point as bashed)
1 3/4 black grosgrain ribbon - Today 1 1/2 homemade removable Miami Dolphins ribbon
1 3/4 black sweat band
Original retail price $25

This was my first Cavanagh hat with a Cavanagh edge.... What drew me to it was I noticed in one of the sellers photos my own initials on the sweatband. So I knew it had to come my way. It Has become one of my favorite grab and go... goto hats.

Today it is dressed up for day two of the NFL draft in Dolphins colors with a ribbon I made up today. Held on with a couple small magnets. Definitely far from perfect... but it came out pretty cool.

You're getting close, Joe, but no signs of fatigue yet. Still going strong.
Took a wander around the local environs after dinner tonight wearing the new Resistol.

#25 Good morning, FLers! View attachment 230453
A 40s/early 50s Harry Rolnick Resistol. Been looking for this hat for a long time. Worth the wait.
4 5/8 crown as pinched. 2 7/16 hand felted edge brim. (which, is best example I’ve seen) 2 inch ribbon with a smartly executed double bow.
This Kitten Finished fedora is named “Monroe” for a reason I’d like to know, but until I find out I’ll be calling it my “Bill Monroe”. For I love Bluegrass and Bill loved hats. View attachment 230455 View attachment 230456 View attachment 230457
A beauty, Randall. But then so was Monroe! Maybe that's the reason?

Cheers. I tip my morning coffee in your direction. I was out wearing a light gray Stetson Fifteen from yesterday. I steamed and worked the hat to a big smooth open crown. A light center dent this morning and the hat looks big and tall.

A mid morning escapade in a Pendleton Board Shirt and Stetson Playboy. Feeling like a Bon Vivant.

J. Hückel´s Söhne were famous for Velour Soft Felt Hats but their Stiff Felt Hats were also very popular. This week I will feature J. Hückel´s Söhne Stiff Felt Hats.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Elastic", 134 grams possibly early 1930s. Dense felt with fantastic finish. Great form on this one. Really unique liner color and in very good condition.

Looking good Stefan
Thank you, Joe.

Nice French homburg, Stefan.
Being somewhat of an artist, I’m impressed and partial to the striking, detailed black and white logos decorating the older generation lids that can be seen here quite often on the Lounge.
Thanks, Randall. I can only agree on the observation about the logos. There's some pretty spectacular work there on some of them.

Do you have pix of the tags, Randall? It looks perilously close to one I recently picked up.

Thanks buddy. Yeah, they definitely wear a silverbelly hat with a purple ribbon. There were some old pics somewhere on the Lounge with New York State Highway Patrolmen wearing those hats.

I was going to say purple ties, too, but I see this has been covered.

I was hoping someone had a Monroe.

I’d absolutely love to see some pics of it. Guess you don’t have any way of finding out why it’s called a Monroe. Maybe named after a bygone president? Surely it wasn’t named after ole Bill, but it’d be cool if it was! Anyway, far as I’m concerned it is now. :)
Hope this tag helps us both out in some way.
