I should say 601. I pulled the trigger on a chocolate Royal Stetson today. Nice crown and 2" overwelt brim with a textured sweat and verdigris inside the tip liner. What causes that? Metals in the ink?
The wife is working from home so I'm going to have to patrol the front porch diligently in a couple days.
I managed to get a pretty nice grey Stagecoach into the barn early last week. I recognized the hatband as one of the cheap elastic ones I've found on Chinese straws, a decent color match but unworthy of the Stagecoach. Maybe that's why nobody was even watching it. I got it home for about $30 and the RS will be even less.
I am risking a very unhappy wife though so can't get acquisition crazy again.

What was I thinking?

Ventured forth because I was out of milk. I miss wearing a daily hat. Today, a very old Dalton thin ribbon I picked up a few years ago.

I'm starting to covet some of the Mallory's I'm seeing you blokes post, had never heard of them prior. Picked up this tidy little unit with a brim over odds for a trilby but have never heard of the brand, not even sure if it isnt the style as it has no lining and no other info other than centimetre size. I'm one of those that can still travel and included a shot of the departures board of Brisbane airport this morning, first regular flights for the country since an almost total shut down for a week. So I get to go out for milk (and alcohol) more often than most!

It is a brand. I see them on a regular basis over here in the vintage shops. Unsure if they're actually English made; could be one of those German brands using "fancy" sounding English names.

Pasta and chickpea stew for dinner. I headed out for some exercise in my VS Executive.

This hat was inspired by my Adams Pacesetters (both 5 and 7 gill ribbon versions)in executive quality. It always gives me a smile when I call it an "Executive" as the gill ribboned hats were thought to be more casual a style. I recall my boss in Corp.America suggesting that I should attire myself more casually to be an "executive in the current age." In the 80's til early 2000's I was in shirt, slacks. tie, dress shoes and a sports coat. My costume was madding consistent according to my wife. My hat was a tip to the "casual."

In keeping with yesterday’s theme of lounge camaraderie today’s entry was passed on to me by fellow lounge member @Bill Hughes. This is a sleek multi hued heather wool felt with a short overwelt brim. I love it’s neat red liner. It is a very cool little hat and is definitely a grab and go selection. Many thanks To Bill for sending this one my way.

Perfect looking gills there, Brent. The hat is pretty good as well.

Janyška "Parga" possibly late 1930s early 1940s. I really like the shade of blue. The felt has a Chamois like finish and is very pliable. This hat also has a narrow sweatband.

This week I will highlight Janyška & Cie. from Czechoslovakia. Janyška & Cie. was started in the 1920s in Valašské Meziříčí – Krásno about 25 km from Nový Jičín (location of JHS, BB, AP). Janyška & Cie. was a Czech company based on Austrian hat tradition. Janyška & Cie. became Tonak Factory 2 post WWII and the factory was closed 1961.

Fantastic blue colour on that one, Steve. I noticed the flange of the brim is very pronounced and curved. The pics of the factory are fabulous.

I've been trying to pick some hats that don't get much head time lately for my daily masked Corona crawl down the coastal path, Ke Ala Hele Makålae, but the days are starting to run together and I think this 60s Playboy has been out for a walk recently. However, I did break out one of the wonderful masks that I received today from West Virginia and the daughter of @AbbaDatDeHat. I'm stylin! Thank you to my friends in West Virginia!
My thanks also to the Hawai'i National Guard I met today on my walk, for their help in encouraging everyone to stay safe and follow our Stay at Home Order, and social distance while exercising.

Took the new to me Resistol out for a spin today - a walk around the neighborhood with my wife.
Just for fun, when we got home I tried it with my poncho. I can't remember where the poncho is from - somewhere in South America - maybe Peru. I got it back home in New Zealand about 20 years ago. I used to wear it quite a bit, but not for a long time now. I figured it might work with this hat, though.

Thanks Tim. I think it was probably one of my $1.99 thrift store finds. Turns out to be pretty comfortable to wear.

More British glory.

It was tough not to yodel when I was wearing my Switzerland Fashions sweater. Ha ha. I managed to avoid the avalanches and the snow was gone from the branches in a couple of hours. And gone completely by afternoon.

Thrilled that this one fits. The split on the taped seam worked to my benefit, my first No. 1 quality, unlined and 1920’s lid.

Hard to tell but this is with the brim snapped down

Going retro with this pair.
The Stetson hails from the 20s, or so.
The Dobbs is from early 40s, maybe late 30s. The direct opposite of the bowler; this felt is so light and floppy!
I’ve noticed a few folks having hat band ribbons with “basting stitches” left in around the top of the ribbon edge. I’m not so convinced that they’re basting stitches. Maybe it is temporary stitching, but after installing several hatbands now, it doesn’t make sense why anyone would use basting to hold the top of a ribbon that is “supposed to be removed later, but was forgotten.”

The thread used to hold down this ribbon is so thin and hard to see that I just noticed it this week!
always thought if I ever ended up with a hat that had these left in they would get removed, but these are so inconspicuous that I’ll leave them be, for the sake of originality preservation.

Lovely hats, Randall, especially the Dobbs. We call these basting stitches, but likely their function was to prevent the ribbon from wrinkling when hats were stacked on top of each other.
