Janyška "Parga" possibly late 1930s early 1940s. A very nice shade of brown with a Chamois like felt finish. The hat has a unique narrow sweatband. Unfortunately the gold dye must have a high concentration of copper which has oxidized with wear. Unfortunately this is not uncommon for the time period. This hat is from my May 2016 NOS Czech find.

This week I will highlight Janyška & Cie. from Czechoslovakia. Janyška & Cie. was started in the 1920s in Valašské Meziříčí – Krásno about 25 km from Nový Jičín (location of JHS, BB, AP). Janyška & Cie. was a Czech company based on Austrian hat tradition. Janyška & Cie. became Tonak Factory 2 post WWII and the factory was closed 1961.

Another fantastic post Steve - I always appreciate you going the extra mile with all the knowledge you share with us. The proportions on the pre-war continental homburgs you've been sharing are just about perfection. Just need to get my hand on one now!

That deep brown, that sweat, that fantastic brim curl. That’s an amazing hat all around. Bravo.

Joe, Thank you! Really like your Italian Velour. Would it be possible to take a sharper photo of the paper label? Thanks again!
Thanks Steve... I was having trouble getting a good photo because the stitching runs through the label the liner and the oilskin. I can try it again.. maybe with some clips or something.

A Buckaroo Hatters wide ribbon, bound edge today.
I had to go pick up some medication for my wife. So I stopped to get the grand kids some snacks.
A Little old'er' lady in front of me told the cashier... ''That man looks like a bandit''.

Wayne, Thank you! These Janyška Homburg like Hats have a unique form. I am not sure I have encountered anything similar. They were domestic market (Czechoslovakia) hats so might be location and time period specific. I really enjoy wearing them.

Yeah I don’t know if it was the very thin felt or the bound edge but it just wouldn’t take an even curl. At 4” the brims a bit wide for city wear but I might just have to embrace it!
I heard Greg mention using a length of rope for curling a brim, but can't shed any more light on the matter.

Janyška "Parga" possibly late 1930s early 1940s. The black felt on this hat is of a heavier weight so most likely worn without side dents. This hat is from my May 2016 NOS Czech find.

That one is amazing, Steve. Love the brim curl and overall dimensions. Looks like it has a good hand as well.
