The ‘Arctic Blast’ blew in last night and it was 37F this morning, LOL.

Mallory Dallas to keep me warm.

Nice looking lunch and great looking duds, Eric. Super shades of green all round.

Shades of green.

Cold today found me wearing a Well Dressed Head cap. I took my cap (Archer model) out for a bowl of Niku Soba Ramen (Hakata style) this afternoon.

My luncheon mate commented that my duds matched my ramen. Love my duds and the lunch.

A blustry winter day in Texas with freezing rain, sleet, and snow in some areas in north Texas this morning. Time to call out the big guns. Today, my black cowboy hat, a 5X Resistol with a horse hair band. I bought this one new back in the early 80's. Felt is like sandpaper compared to vintage hats, heavy, and stiff as a board. Not much to brag about but it's paid for and it looks good and I guess that's all that matters! Have a great day everyone!

My experience with European hats is limited, so I can't comment on shellac, but I think some of the differences may also come from such things as quality of the water used in felting, as well as the inherent features of the local fur supply. Heck, the hare's, or beaver's diet may even play a part in the subtle differences in the felt.

PRobably just the engineer in me overthinking things, though.

Thank you, Stefan. Nice "Fu" today!

That's it!

We need more women on this board, but they never seem to stick around.
It's probably one of those "all of the above" answers. Any of the factors involved or combination thereof may have something to do with it. One thing that I was wondering about is what influence the dying process and chemicals used would have had on the felt (different colours and different chemicals, different effect?). Why are these hatters so darned secretive?

We've had some of our custom hatters comment that some colors seem to be easier to work with, at least with Winchester felts.

Stefan that is gorgeous! I need to read more on the fu Lazzaro thread I think and educate myself...

Also would you call it lords? For some reason if it has an overwelt and curl the upbrim fedora comes in my mind...whatever it looks great !
Thanks, Panos. It is a good one alright. I would at least call it "sir":)
Not exactly a lords hat, but comes very close to that.
Some strange yellowish orb and blue skies overhead today for the first time in I don't know when. Weatherman said to expect record breaking temps in the low to mid 50s. Today's heatwave called for the unlined Mac Lachlan:

No sign of winter here as well. Still felt weather though. Very nice, Jonathan.

Finalmente!:)
The patience I needed has paid off though (with interest!): what a hat! Thanks again, Daniele.

Art Fawcett in black-cherry for services this morning.
