Introduced my new hat to the beach today. Coming into the rainy season I am curious to see how this dress weight felt holds up. It is nice and soft out of the box.

It is in fact a very nice panama hat body. The seller had bought it decades ago in Ecuador and never got around to having a hat made out of it. I have some experience how this can turn out and a quality panama hat body is a no brainer anyway. Turns out it was a bit larger than I anticipated
Need to switch to plan B.

It is so hard to keep up with the conversation on this thread. I think (hope) we all understand and appreciate the posts and comments. I too love the color combination in this hat... reminds me of a modern Borsalino Como that I owned for a while, which had the same colors in the ribbon/felt coordination, though reversed. Lovely hat.

Daniele; Seeing your hat collection is intriguing as I do not see these hats. Todays hat is especially interesting due it its felt and ribbon treatment. Be assured I really enjoy seeing your posts.

It is always a pleasure to see how European black hats are elegant, even when they are not of a known brand. These days I have gathered the black hats I have in my collection and I was fascinated by how interesting they are, especially when they come from little-known producers. Often even the recent ones, let's say made thirty years ago, have an allure that is captivating

I expect I'll be wearing it for tomorrows coffee. They were made in New London Ohio between 1888 and 1913.

Wasn't Norms that guy on Cheers? The Mans at Home robe or banyan was pretty much standard fare from sometime in the 16th century until the 20th. We've just forgotten about it. An example from ~1750

A bit surprising to see how modern it looks, Steve. Very nice. Now and again I find this type of hat with the crown patch missing and just the sweatband to go on. On yours the crown patch is still there and it's fantastic.

Stefan, Thanks! It could be just after WWII. The factory was in the French district. A similar looking example has French wording on the paper label but this hat is in German.

Daniele, Thank you! Yes I feel the same about European Black Hats. I was looking through a stack of hats and this Hutproduktiv "Standard" just grabbed my attention.
