Been raining a lot so I thought I’d throw on my plastic Panama. Can’t decide brim up, or down?

Aloha Jonesy,
I say, brim down if it's raining so as to let the rain drip. Either way, you look smashing. Who makes the hat?

I spent my last 5 years of Army on Oahu. I miss your awesome weather.

Mahalo DRB. I like to pretend that form follows function follows form in my hat selection.

From the Akubra Straw Styles, this hat is a well fitted Panama style woven polypropylene for durability. Great for hot days. Wide ribbon hatband.
Brim: 76 mm (3")

In this circumstance the Fed IV was the wrong hat to wear with swim wear at the pool wet bar. It was too formal to wear with swim trunks.
Funny thing is I bought my Wife a quite nice Straw the last time we were here, for just this occasion and she didn't bring hers.
I already knew I needed another hat for days like this at a pool bar, and while we kayak the rivers here.

A couple other pics of today. At the house before we hit the road, and here at the hotel.

@bowlerman was just pulling your leg. It sounded like you were disappointed that you needed another hat.

If you’re going to expose your “straw” hat to the possibility of getting really wet, I suggest you look at a polypropylene hat. Akubra makes several and I think they look good and they are cool wearing due to being so well-ventilated. Hemp is also an option, but for real wet conditions, such as kayaking, polypropylene is hard to beat (as long as it is well-ventilated because the material does not breathe).

Yes, I have a Capricorn. It has all the features Brent described and is cool enough in the summer.
