I changed oil and filter on my snowblower while under the brim of a Portis "The New Slant."

"The New Slant" does not have a unique blocking, rather depends on the user to crease a slant in the hat to allow it to live to it's marketed name. I have been pushing and prying the felt into a slant since the vintage hat came to my hat rack.

Cheers, Eric -
Eric, i don’t often enough comment on your posts because it would be a daily devotional to hat perfection and envy of the dynamo work effort you call morning before coffee.
But...when you bring out the Dobbs blue, the Marathon blue and the Cadet blues i bite my tongue in envy!!

Thanks for the daily delights you contribute. I’m sure i’m not alone in saying you re-invigorate in more than just hats. Thank you.

Bowen a big thank you for the compliment sir. "Sieze the morning" is my axiom. I hope a cheery New Year to you and your family. Eric -

Brent your Gannon collection is outstanding in every iteration.
Makes me want some Gannon.

Thanks, B. Customs are the best I can do seeing that so few great vintage hats show up in my size.

If you want a spectacular custom hat I would encourage you to send @ChicagoWayVito a PM and see if he is accepting customers. The hat he made me has pride of place in my custom collection…it still blows my mind that he was able to make such a hat from modern felt.

Thanks for the info, Brent. I know very little about new felts. But one day, in my home builder retirement future, I hope to find out more.
Says he’s only been selling custom hats since 2017.
You can sure see a difference in craftsmanship from his earlier hat postings from 2018 to his latest postings in 2022.
I have one of his earlier creations and it is a fine hat. His detail work was stellar even then. I have one from this year and I ordered a special pounce that he didn't offer in the beginning. It is a top of the line hat and stands even or above my other custom hats that cost twice his.

They are still in business, I think it might be a grandson. Nice people and a good store. At one time they had a BIG hat factory in St Louis. They have a web sight if you're interested
Yes I'm familiar with them. I have the original box that's labeled Levine Hat Manufacturing Co.

Buckley Sportsman - Pork Pie
3 5/8 Telescoping Crown
1 7/8 Fancy Striped Ribbon with Back Bow
2 inch brim with underwelt

The 4th hat of the 5 Canadian hat stack was a very smashed up hat from a lesser known brand, with diminutive specs, it’s liner falling out and a good amount of discoloration on the crown. In handling the felt I realized the discoloration was ghost creases from the pork pie-ish telescope crown it once sported. A shape it definitely favors. A good brushing and steaming spiffed it up quite nicely. And I got the liner to play ball for now. Not my preferred style… but makes for a nice change of pace kinda hat.

Good to hear! Like I said, he makes great looking hats and I would likely buy one if I couldn’t find bargain priced vintage hats.

Arrived on the last working day of the last year, went into open air storage and then tidied up and put on.
Cervo Pelo Bantam 6.jpg
Bantam Creazioni Speciali Cervo size 60 cm.. No indication of color or model
Cervo Pelo Bantam 2b.jpg

I'm almost certain it is one of the last high end productions of Cappellificio Cervo
Cervo Pelo Bantam 7a.jpg
The felt is particularly well finished with a long nap, but the texture is firm and has the marks of a pressing with the forming machine. Impeccable finishes
Cervo Pelo Bantam 2a.jpg
For this and other small details I consider it a product of the final phase of the Bantam brand

Very comfortable when worn with some thickness, given my military cut hair.
Tomorrow the presentation in still life of this splendid Italian velour
