C. G. Wilke "Flamand" possibly late 1920s early 1930s. This is a unique one with massive Brim Flange. Flamand is a unshorn Velour but in this case also a Mélange.

Carlos Santana “Panama”
Two-tone straw weave
4 3/4 Crown - just over 2 inch brim
Fancy Liner and Sweatband Art

Every so often I’ve seen a lounger with one of these Carlos Santana hats with the super cool sweatband art and it really peaked my interest. I’ve kept my eye out for some time… but rarely do I find a CS that isn’t either fabric sweat.. or if it does have the cool leather sweat… the hat itself is just too far “out there” for me. And looking new… no luck either. Finally I came across this one in a style I am very comfortable with… that the seller made a very fair offer on.

So… here is the verdict. The leather sweat.. I believe is real at least as far as in say modern Hatco sweats are real leather. I’m sure it is probably made of that same stuff that might disintegrate under heavy use. As such I do not intend to use in that fashion. Either way.. the art is debossed into the band itself and not simply airbrushed. Which I think is nice. If this were a tighter hat on my noggin it might leave imprint. In addition to the sweat.. this one includes a quite fabulous liner. Not sure if it qualifies as a Lovely Liner.. but expect a post there. At some point it will likely get a new hat band.. ribbon or such. But for now… I’m quite happy with it as is. Absolutely love the straw colors.

What can I say?? “Oye Como Va”

That is one funky straw, Joe. Suits you very nicely.

I'd be smiling too like that knowing how cool it is under the lid
