Got a buddy that drove truck that used a similar style of hat when loading and unloading. Served him for years.
Wear it in good health my friend

On my birthday last October I had this plan to grill out for my family and the friend plus his daughter. Well, weather tried to have other plans and it absolutely cut loose and rained something like 3 inches that day.

I hadn’t quite gotten back into hats but had this Outback Kodiak hat hanging on the wall for years covered in dust. (Had purchased it while I worked at Cabelas years ago along with an oilskin drover - which I wear all the time and love. )

Anyway, said friend doesn’t mind getting wet, but wears glasses. While helping me hang a tarp for my insisted upon birthday steak I decided to gift the old Kodiak to him.

Felt quite bad about it ever since. Even though he has religiously worn that hat every day since. He has been a great friend and deserved something new. Finally got around to making it happen.

Pictures of the rainy day and a recent one of him being weird on my daughter’s table. :)

The UK temperature topped 40C today, that's 104F, not exactly a felt hat day. Tina told me that wearing light colours helps reflect the heat, but I tell you, it can get warm inside an old MG. No air-con of course but the old car does have a clever cooling system. You wind the windscreen open, then, along with the cooling breeze you get dead flies, car fumes, dust and the occasional discarded, but still smouldering, cigarette butt. The joy of an old car. The battered Biltmore was more than a compliment for the shirt and trousers although I did think about the bespoke brown straw that Esther made me.

Hope that cool look and car keep you cool, Robert. I love heat, but 40° give or take is crazy.

Crazy, Steve? What an apt description. Today the temperatures have dropped to something more mercifully tolerable, nonetheless it's still sensible to stay out of the sun, but when it's not possible then a wide brim sun hat, courtesy of Esther, is just the most practical way of remaining cool(ish.)
