For about ten years almost every day I wore a pair of Dr Martin brown leather lace ups just like these. Beat up patchwork old baseball mitt looking leather shoes that seemed like they walked right out of a bowling alley. About five years ago one of our then pups got to em and tore one up enough that my wife convinced me to toss them out. And I thought “hey I can just grab another pair” well I didn’t find any right away and then managed to forget what brand they were... even pickup up a couple pairs of Skechers that were of a similar style... but never quite the same. Then after I had given up hope... out of the blue... low and behold... at random a pair identical to my long lost shoes... but just like new... popped up on my eBay Home Screen. They arrived today. Just as beautifully ugly as I remember. Let the... “hey.. going bowling” comments commence.

Quite a while back I stumbled on the Allen Edmonds Mapleton shoes. They are glove leather casual rubber soled shoes, but I could also pair them with a sports coat or business casual attire. They work on ranches and when dusted off can go straight to a board of supervisors meeting without looking out of place. I can’t say the style (bicycle toe) is my favorite, but they are comfortable, hard wearing, and allow me to not have to carry a second pair of shoes for meetings etc. When they discontinued them I bought seven pairs: five in brown and two in black. All of them will still be serviceable long after I’m retired. If you find something that works, go with it.

Sun and wind now, magnificent day with temperature that is around 0 degrees centigrade, morning with a sky promising snow.

Tonight we will go abundantly below zero, this morning and yesterday the sky promised snow and for the occasion I wore a high lobbia Borsalino made before the Second World War.

Sold in Sofia by Simeon Zlateff it has remained intact until now.

Color of the felt is "Bismuto" ribbon is "Nera" and the type is "Erodisti"

Here I'm in the part of the day before the wind swept away any greyness, then temperature cooling while the sun starts its rise.

In the next days more hats arrived will be show, for now have a nice Saturday

I did something similar with a pair of flip flops that actually had arch support. Usually no matter what price flip flops are usually just that and offer no support. These kept my feet better supported than any walking or running shoe I had worn. Like I could walk all day and not be sore. I bought up several pairs.. some of which are still unused in my closet awaiting their turn.

Reminds me of a scene with Dustin Hoffman in Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

After three trips to the woodpile to restock the wood rack next to the backdoor I quickly realized this was not the right headwear for the weather. Off to look for my earmuffs...

I am always hesitant to wear a quality hat out when the weather is inclement. Today, the temperature is below freezing and we're getting the infamous "wintery mix." I have a goal to get out every day and get in at least 30 minutes of exercise (walking, biking, hiking, running) so I finally was hit with the realization that a hat is first and foremost a protective head covering, and only secondarily a fashion item.

With that in mind, I grabbed my wide-brimmed (for me) Akubra Campdraft, donned it, and went out for a two mile walk up the trail and around the neighborhood. It worked wonderfully keeping snow and sleet out of my eyes! There was some ice on it when I returned home, so I simply put it aside to let it dry.

Thanks Joe and Steve! The felt has a really nice hand. I bought the hat as new-old-stock from a small town men's wear store near here. The proprietor just recently closed the store due to a cancer diagnosis. He is in his 90s.

Nice. Beaver brand must have made a habit of making hats for general stores. I have two from a small general store that closed up and the grand kids were selling off the old stock.

the light ones leather sweat band disintegrated after a long hot summer of hard wear. The dark one I have never really felt overly comfortable in. Shape wise. I may have to remedy that.

Nice Campdraft, Fred. The cord band is unusual, but it looks “right” on this hat.
