I stumbled across it quite by accident. I was looking at Strats on the Stetson store site and noticed the "Pure" version (this one is 100% beaver) for 25% off. Since it's a $400 hat I jumped on it. I always wanted one like this....

One of seven recent hats from an estate sale.

Not sure how to deal with this long stampede string. If cinched in the rear it hangs way down my back (this is a hard photo to take yourself).

If in the front it lays on my beard.

I gotta get a haircut...

Penney’s Marathon - Tan felt
4 3/4 crown as shaped - 5 inch open
3/8 grosgrain ribbon
2 1/8 brim - likely trimmed

Well we have reached the very middle of the Mystery Hat Box 9 with hat number 5. A Well worn Penney’s Marathon with all the hallmarks of what appears originally may have been a Stratoliner clone somewhere along the way trimmed to a 2 1/8 stingy brim. The felt is super soft and incredibly shapable. A few small mothing spots on the crown and a small dirty spot on the brim which may clean up. The sweat shows a lot of wear.. but is very soft. I have an old Strat I believe also had the same fate if having its brim trimmed which I like very much. This one though may just be a tad too loose and I might send it on down the line after I get my pandemic hair trimmed.

Changed up to the Borsalino Caesar to get some new tires on the car.
