Marathon Air Command was my blue hat today. Air Force blue felt.

Thanks, Steve. This was a wide brim fedora made for the religious market. I westernized it some in shape and appointments.

Nice reshape and appointments, Brent. I have a Borsalino originally made for my orthodox brethren. A wide, flat brimmed Homburg, which I curled some to give it a more "classic" Homburg look.
You've inspired me to reshape the next one I come across into a Western.

KILLER, killer! I always wondered if those hats would convert well. For you, they certainly do!
Are they as hard shelled as they look?
I used to tan and make bands like that from well dead rattlers when in my late teens. Too wise these days, to go gigging them fanged thangs from gopher turtle holes.

This band is thin and light. I got it second hand and I really like it. I’ve bought a couple snakeskin bands on Etsy and the quality and service is great, but the bands are a bit heavy. I wonder if they lighten much as they season? The hat is quite soft, more fedora than western in nature. The good part is these wide brim Borsalinos can often be found at quite reasonable prices.

In tanning rattler or cotton mouth skins, an outer layer of each scale sluffs off causing a reduction of the Hide’s brilliance. It’s inevitable.
However, they still look great, just not as colorful. And yes, they continue to fade with time, but not too much. The hide looks great for many years.
