Great looking hat. Glad you were able to get it back in action
Thanks, Joe.
I’ve got around 15 other hats that I need to work on and list in eBay.
The only thing standing in the way are home owners who expect completion of their projects. Somehow, they think that’s more important than hats!!
Could some of you guys write them a PM for me?

Only if you'll tell the US Air Force the same thing for me. :D

I think you've brought that Borsa back to how it ought to look, Randall.
Great job, buddy

View attachment 256409 Could no longer resist taking this magnificent 50s Borsalino to the next level by becoming more fedora-ish and less homburg-ish.
Without hesitation, or reserve, I can pick a most favorite hat.
For reference, the last photo is how it used to look. Some may like it better. I did, for a while. View attachment 256408 View attachment 256407 View attachment 256406 View attachment 256405 View attachment 256404
Ps,
I suppose I should add that this was not a conversion. Only change made to the hat was when I fixed the rust stained ribbon...and now the brim’s shape.

Here’s a few pics of my new 7 3/8 59 cent. composite Randal Alan hat tools.
They’re already upping my hat game more than a few notches.
It’s definitely true that one needs to buy a hat block a size up from one’s own size.

A shout out of thanks to @T Jones for his offer of help in how to properly use these things.

Thanks, Rumad.
It wasn’t easy. The brim liked its deep dish flange and it put up a real fight. Wanted to leave ridges in the brim when using the usual steam pot method. Nevertheless, the steam iron method worked very well, but had to be very careful with it as well.
The finish on this particular Borsalino felt is velour-ish , but not velour, and irons could ruin its hand, if not using the needed thin throw cloth to protect it, plus not staying in one spot too long.
I’ve been working on hats for a while, but I’ve learned more in the last 12 months than I have in the last 20 years.
The FL and all its members are the best!! Wish I had found y’all sooner.
Now that I received my new flanger late tonight ironing my next Borsalino brim will be easy!

Nice. I had to go back and read what hat this was. I thought it wasn’t custom by pictures alone. Looks good, wear it in good health.
Johnny
Thanks Johnny!
This isn't just a nice looking hat, but also a great learning experience between the three sweatband replacements, a couple reblocks (with a naptha bath and a woolite wash in the process) and three ribbon jobs. I thought about going back to the original color combo with a brown ribbon, but that blue just kinda worked it's way into my heart. :)
