My daughter made a hatcake for me, and I knew I had to share it with all of you...

Happy Birthday Charlie. That is a marketable idea - edible hats! Grand milan with the "panama crease."

Stefan, Thank you! I have some more but will start something new today.

Great looking "Bristol" today. I really like the felt ribbon color combo and bow design. This is a trademark I searched (a while ago) for but came up empty.
Thanks, Steve. Surprising how many brands were used back then. And not just for any kind of hat; they are usually great quality too.
Headed over to future son-in-law’s for a cookout. Nice and cool here today. Chose my nicest Montecristi re-blocked by Art Fawcett.

Fabulous, Bill. You'll make him nervous with a hat of that calibre.

Day 25 of 31 Hat Parade: A little late again, we napped before our daily walk as it was raining this morning. The weather is going to be getting hotter over the next few days so Straw Hats are in order. Tonight, my "Ben Affleck" wild looking weave from Homero Ortega in Ecuador. My friend's wife is from there, so on visits he brings back some interesting Cuenca straws. This is more of a tourist hat, some at the Ortega store are in the five figures! I love it for a quick grab and go when I want to feel a little sporty. There was a picture of Ben Affleck wearing one of these in the show room, hence the moniker.

Easy going hat, by the looks of it, Mike. We all need some.

This week I will feature P. & C. Habig Wien & Berlin Hats. The hats will be from the 1920s up to the 1950s.

P. & C. Habig Wien "Spezial Qualität", possibly early 1920s but could be older. The hat was missing the liner (assuming it had one) and ribbon / bow so had it restored by Optimo Chicago (they no longer provide this service). I decided to go with a less traditional look with blue ribbon and bow design (not sure this was a good idea in retrospect). The Velour is a of a heavier weight but amazingly soft and pliable. The Velour quality definitely is "Spezial" with high gloss and dark as night. It's very difficult to photograph because it absorbs so much light. Great Form with a Curled Brim so worn as shown here. This hat was an export to Riga and that was also the sellers location. I found this hat back in February 2012.

I think that blue ribbon works very well with this hat, Steve. Great form as well.

Modern Royal Stetson Whippet-Japan, Open Crown with a new crisp diamond bash, Guatemalan head band, and a Malaysian Batik cloth face mask on the Masked Corona Crawl.
A few more people today on the beach, but no crowds. On the way to the beach some kids on bikes rode by on the coastal path and yelled out “peace on earth”. I yelled back “right on”.

Excellent, David. Really like the head band.

Impeccable, Fabio.

Dog walk, run and now relaxing with some coffee. Humid weather finds me wearing a vintage Stetson panama. This unique straw hat has a mesh lining and then a solid liner top. Very comfortable.

I did wear the hat backwards puttering about. It has been a long time since I have worn a hat back to front.

Cheers. Starting the day backwards, Eric -
Lovely hat, Eric. Gorgeous weave.

Stefan, Thanks! I was thinking traditional yesterday. I agree with you and Joe. It will go back in storage until Winter.

Great to see the ESKO "Velour"! Ernst Köln sold a lot of hats, branded and under their label. They also acquired the Möckel trademark in the mid 1960s.

Ps:
Hat’s off to your daughter’s baking skills. I made a tofu turkey one Thanksgiving for my vegetarian daughter....looked like a squashed frog.

Beautiful hat, Bill.

Stellar hat, Steve. Great series this and a nice reminder how many wonderful there were (and with any luck still are).

Imposing hats these Stetsonians. Looks great, Jim.

Looks like a panama cordobes hat, Michael. I like that!
Thanks Stefan.

German week, season 5, episode 1
Bristol (another one of those fancy branded German hats we don't know the manufacturer of)

Another nice example of a somewhat misleadingly branded German hat.

Thanks,
Michael
