This is how I roll in this strange new world, with a Resistol DoubleX & in need of a haircut. Works pretty good but I would recommend you use online banking!

Lee Water Bloc Bronze Label

View attachment 235012

Lee Water Bloc - Bronze Label
Light Milk Chocolate
4 1/2 crown as bashed
1 1/8 Brown grosgrain mid ribbon
2 3/4 overwelt brim
1 7/8 soft supple sweatband.
Unlined interior

This very cool unlined... light milk chocolate Lee Water Bloc Bronze label surely deserved a spot in the 30 Days... unfortunately it got skipped. And with some of the fantastic unlined examples on display the last couple days... it was time for this one to have its turn in the sun... or grey overcast sky as it were today. This one has a nice wide 2 3/4 brim and a less common mid ribbon. A thin light weight felt and a beautiful color that does change depending on light from a tan to a milk chocolate color. I don’t end up wearing this one too often as my wife thinks it looks to much like a Sheriff’s hat. Which may be true as it worked out great as part of my Chief Hopper from Stranger Things costume this past Halloween. Not a perfect match. But much more affordable than The $600 to $800 Worth and Worth Was looking for on their Official version. Today it came along as we ventured out to find a sofa for my mother-in-law. Quite an adventure... though maybe not quite fitting this adventuresome hat.

That is a beauty, Joe. Nice proportions and colour and unlined too. As I keep saying: we don't see enough Lee hats here.

Stefan, Thank you! The Velour quality in this case almost doesn't make sense. I guess it's possible they had old stock from STECO (or some other company) or they still had the ability to make something of this quality.

Happy to see another Wegener "Colonel"! Great job keeping the German series going!
Thank you, Steve. We still have a way to go I'm happy to say.

Day 14 of 31 Hat Parade: In preparation for tomorrow's National Straw Hat Day, May 15th, I have been boxing up the winter "grab-and-go" hats and replacing them with my straw collection. During the 1920s, this tradition was more strictly adhered to. I have been cheating a little. A felt hat that came to hand was my Brent Fedora that has been converted from a more "western" style. Brent hats were made for the department store chain, Montgomery Ward. Other store brands included, Pilgrim from Sears and the more common Marathon which is JC Penny. I had Mike Miller of Northwest hats install a new sweat band (to replace a broken, dry and cracked original) and a new ribbon treatment. He also did a whip stitching binding on the brim edge. Creating a much more wearable fedora out of a sorry example of an Stetson Open Road clone.

That is a stunning transformation, Mike. Good call and great work by Mike Miller!

Long day of "coaching" using the Zoom app. I went for a long walkabout in a Knox Knockabout. It is a warm "75'f (24'c). The first days of spring/summer warmth always feel warmer than they really are. Today feels very, very warm. Not suprising as we had snow flurries a week ago by gosh.

As the sun is slipping towards the horizon my dog and I are out on the deck watching the birds. Letting the Knox dry out, I switched to a Stetson 50's Playboy. Soon I will need to slip the fleece sweater on as the temps are tipping to 55'f (12'c).

Be safe, be strong and see you on the streets soon, Eric -
We're seeing a lot of unlined hats worn by you recently, Eric. Love those, so keep them coming.

This week I will feature various shades of Grey German and Austrian Velours. Most will be from the 1930s.

S. & J. Fraenkel Wien, Open Crown 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 1/4 inches, possibly 1930s. This is a great example of Velour Soleil (Sun) where the soft long hair tips are clipped off and the hair is ironed all around which in turn reflects a lot of light. The super pliable (only a soft touch required to form) Velour Soleil is a fantastic Steel Gray color. S. & J. Fraenkel Wien / Ebreichsdorfer (Austria) Filzhutfabrik were one of the finest producers of Velour in Austria. I will leave the rest to the photos.

"Fraenkel Wien" Mirrored Display Stand, date stamped May 2, 1931. This was a fantastic gift from Daniele.

The same exact S. & J. Fraenkel Wien Crest as the above hat (see 2nd liner photo).

This is a visual tour of the Ebreichsdorfer Heimatmuseum (S. & J. Fraenkel Wien Hat Factory / Ebreichsdorfer Felt Hat Factory) which I visited March 10th 2017.

I'm imagining what that felt must feel like, Steve. Magnificent hat. The pictures make clear to me that the working conditions must have been gruelling a lot of the time.

Love the colour on that one, Max.

Very nice, Alan. Killer bow.

Differences between homburgs are often very subtle, but I really like this one, Fabio.
Colonel? Looks like it should be at least a Major General. Commanding.

Thanks Stefan. Still one of my favorites.

Michael
Thanks, Michael. Wegener has quite a bit of variation in their hats. The "colonel" line is high quality, so if you find one, buy it.

Had to try out this matchy match at least once. Knox velour with Lawrence suede leather

Seems like it will be a nice day to be outside here today. Might have to honor the day and switch to a straw hat this afternoon.

Michael
Great combo, Michael. Wonderful colours.

Who says that's really you underneath that gear, Jack? The thought of scaring the pants off unsuspecting passers-by would make me smile though (not that anyone would see it, but still).:)

Groceries and butcher shop this morning. A VS thin ribbon in sage felt was my fedora for the adventure.

A run, shower and then a cool down walk necessitated a change of hats. A VS art-lite "Wanderer" in silverbelly was the perfect chapeau for the task.

Cheer. Be safe, be strong and see you on the street soon, Eric -
Lovely hats, Eric.

Optimo Oxblood today. This is Optimo's "Public Enemies" model, which they provided for Johnny Depp, only it has a bit of a wider brim. View attachment 235214 View attachment 235215 View attachment 235216 View attachment 235217 View attachment 235218
You look a bit worried there, Max, or is that your Johnny Depp impersonation?

I have a VS in black cherry. I like the shape of yours better. Mine has a Tuxedo underbrim, which I like.

Love those colours.

Custom made Gunner Foxx Bullet hole 30’s fedora creation. I know a lot of people don’t like these weathered type of styles but I love them! Also may I just say Gunner is a true master at what he does.
Well, it's certainly a conversation piece and it does have loads of character. And if you like it that's all that matters.
