Finally getting round to posting this ca. early 1950's Mallory Country Club I picked up from Bob. Thanks Bob!
I've often heard the phrase "clay like felt" used on the FL. This Mallory has really made me understand the meaning of that term. Super malleable felt.
I'll let the photos do the rest of the talking.
Anyone know anything about the store it was sold in? Location for example? Or were they a chain?

And that color - whatever it was - that they painted Cutlasses in '67-'68.

My friends and I had a name for it, but I shouldn't share it here, LOL.

Fortune & Glory Kid.... one of Stetsons 150th Anniversary Editions. Beautiful soft felt in a very Mink / brown color. Sold as Open Crown in pure beaver I believe.

Sun came out so sitting out on the patio watching the migrant birds and listening to music in the fairly new to me Dunlap Fifteen. I still can’t figure out what color it is, bit Man, I love this hat. Wonderful moldable clay like felt. I think it might be the Moss Green some people have posted, but it looks different in every light. Tried to get a picture in the Sun, but too much shade around the house with all the trees:

Dunlap Supreme Space/Weight

This Dunlap Supreme Space/weight As it’s name suggests has a rather light weight thin felt. This one has a stingy overwelt brim at 1 1/2 inch and a 4 1/2 crown as bashed. It does not have the neato Dunlap/Champ Space/Weight liner or pin... nor do I think it ever did. It has a single sided bow which I think I had only found on one other of my hats. I’m sure it was a cost cutting measure but it Makes a sleek one piece look.

This one arrived with a tear in the back of its crown. I attempted a repair on it which did not come out too bad

That is a magnificent hat, Steve. Congrats. Mallory sure made a fine hat. My theory is that the different feel of the European and American hats has not so much to do with the felt, but more with the amount of shellac used to let them keep their shape. The American hats, I find, have more shellac in them in general than European ones. That could also be the reason why the American hatters developed the "oval" distinction (regular oval, long oval, etc), which the Europeans never did. That distinction makes sense if a hat is more stiff and doesn't readily take on the shape of ones head.
