Today it started out warm and muggy and then a storm blew in, bringing rain and dropping the temps. Had to run out and do some errands. With the weather being what it was, I turned to an old reliable Stetson. Dark grey with a black ribbon. Creamy liner with a brown leather sweat marked:

The past two weeks I've been switching between a tweed flat cap and a worth walden beaver custom open road style fedora.

Those pictures are great! They make me miss home. What brought you to Montana?

The National Folk Festival. If you look in the picture, you can see my staff badge flapping in the breeze.

Very cool. Did you find any cool hats on the trip? I almost always find one when I visit. Usually they are more western themed but that isn't a bad thing.

I found some really cool hats, but, oddly enough, not a single one for a price I wanted to pay. Most everything was running 50-100 bucks or was completely trashed, not the usual 15-30 that I'm used to, which is odd, because there's so much more of it out there.

I think the one I liked the most was a '30s one, 6" or thereabouts crown, 2" brim, light gray with a wide black ribbon, picked it up, and though it was '30s no doubt about it, it was wool, and 70 bucks.

My vintage purchases ended up being limited to two pairs of '50s sunglasses and two western-themed '30s ties.

Yeah, hats generally cost a bit more money in Montana. My guess is because they are still looked at as acceptable attire. That and everyone wants rustic cowboy "things" to display in their Big Sky home.

Hi Dinerman,

I like both photos - they have a very atmospheric vintage look! BTW, are you wearing some kind of serrated edge tie, in the flat cap image? Or is it some photo definition oddity?

Regards,

Daniel
