Howdy! Long time no post cuz I haven't had anything new to share.

Wearing a '50's Knox Twenty today. I wouldn't call this one a refurb -- more like a resurrection...

She photographs well so it was impossible to tell from the listing photos that the body was COVERED in deep moth bites. So much so that I couldn't pounce them out entirely without damaging the structural integrity of the felt. The worst area was the break -- full 360 of moth gnashes. I couldn't smooth that out so I covered it up by stretching the crown height by 1/8". And to boot, the sweat was dry and cracked...

I'm really curious about how this was stored because despite the aforementioned issues, the liner is pristine. Anyway -- she does photograph well and I love the fit so all-in-all, not disappointed.

That's a great hat, Jeff that looks great on you. Had one just like and wasn't comfortable wearing it and moved it on. Those Supernaturals are so well made and rare as well.

Nice color on that western. Great look.

Feeling a bit under the weather yesterday, I decided to take a personal day. As we all know, idle hands are the Devil's workshop, so after laying around a bit I finally motivated myself to finishing this refurb. About a month ago, I found a Dobbs Hanover Square at an estate sale for the astronomical price of $2.50. A little beat, and a bit dirty, with a few nibbles, but all in all still in acceptable shape. In preparation for a bath, I had my first bad Lexol experience. After treating the sweat, I went back and looked several hours later and the leather had separated from the reed assembly in such a way it was not repairable. So a call to Bond set me up with a new sweatband. I gave it a naphtha bath, a good steam bath, ironed out the crown, and re-flanged it. I took the opportunity of being at home yesterday to cut and install the new sweat (in addition to putting a new sweat in a hat for my wife).

So today, a Dobbs Hanover Square. Hat by Dobbs, unfinished sweat by Bond, refurb by Fruno.

Nice save Jim. Great hat. Since the threat of rain has turned into sunshine it put me in the mood to don the Hanover Square while sitting out on the new patio furniture set I thrifted yesterday.

Great to relax in the morning air with a Dobbs and a cup-o-joe.

The weather has been nice, sunny and bright but still cool and breezy. Perfect for my light weight Borsalino Icaro. I'm really liking this hat, the more I wear it the more I like it!

I like that ribbon work, did you do it too? Just like I tell my actors at the theater, props only have to look good from 20 feet away!

One more for the string of straws we're starting to see. From Dale, thank you very much, this 1950s (early 60s?) Cavanagh Milan. A bit worn, but presents well despite all those years. And the ribbon really brings out the Japanese Red Maple!

Scheduled tune-up and a recall replacement of airbag inflation unit this morning. Long wait had me going outside for a walk and eventually strolling the indoor auto displays. Wearing a Gannon (silverbelly) for my morning appointment.

I saw this earlier on Facebook. It was my inspiration for my custom Lt. Blue. Another one of the holy grail hats I seek.

Dobbs Cool man today. Temperature is supposed to be 90° by Friday. No sign of felt days ahead.

Since the temps are below 90 today, I am trying to squeeze out one more day of felt hats. This is a 1960s Resistol 5X El Lobo western - approx. 2-3/4" brim with a 4-1/2" crown as creased. Resistol calls the color "Silver Grey (Lighter Silver Belly)." This one was sold by Ben's Western Wear in Cotulla, TX, and it came to me unworn. Ben's is still in business. This hat is from the Byer-Rolnick era, but it was popular enough to stay in the Resistol line-up after B-R sold-out in 1967. The El Lobo was offered as a 7X with either a 3-1/4" or 3-1/2" brim in the 1971 Miller-Stockman catalog for $40.
