My recollection is that back bows were considered hip pretty briefly, largely in the latter half of the fifties. The brown oval size tag was used by Dobbs from the early '50s into the early '60s. The liner crest appears in early '60s Dobbs.

So, my best estimate is right at the end of the fifties or very early in the sixties.

Good morning. Up early for a cool and breazy dog walk. Wearing a vtg. Stetson De Luxe Open Road (gray).

Yard pick-up in a vtg. Stetson Stratoliner (sage). Under-brim shot better protrays the sage color.

Clean machine! It is interesting in the difference in the brim binding color. Although my St. Regis is quite old and has patina, the brim edging is more of a cream color than the matching grey.

Moe's Dunlap panama from his recent straw scoop reminded me to get down my Dunlap duplex for another wear before the chill sets in to stay. The straw weave signature of the crown in both hats is very similar.

This duplex is one of my favorites of this style on the Lounge. It brings up a historical question, when did this style of felt/woven hybrid become popular? We see the VS Duplex represented, and I have one in the works with NW Hats, I do wonder the origin of the style.

That's one hat I wish I had picked up instead of the Floretine Milan Stetson. I like this version of sand much better than the lighter color on mine. This looks more like natural straw to me. Very sharp looking modern lid.

There is a thread that Buler started with ads for duplex hats from early in the 20th century - alas, the photos are mostly missing. I believe this Dunlap to be c.1940.

Yeah the variety in brim binding colors for these hommies just makes me jealous that those options used to exist at the ready on store shelves around the country.

So many great hats today. For me, the ambiguous Wormser shown in some different lights. If the brim on this were any stiffer, Odd Job could have used it.

Ambiguity in color is one of my favorite attributes in a hat. That one's got all kinds of chameleon going on.

Lots of great lids here today!

Seems porkpies don't get much love around here, but I enjoy the few I have. I mostly wear them when playing with the band but occasionally wear them to work, too. This is my dark gray Champ (looks bluish in photos). I really like the fact that I can wear it in my car - I have to remove my fedoras!

Thanks. I wasn't sure on the color and kept going back and forth between sand, navy, and moss. I liked that all three of those colors were dark enough to wear year around. Panama hats just don't seem right except in the summer, unless you're in the tropics.

I just bought the moss version from the classifieds here at the Lounge and it should be here early next week.

As promised.

Out if all my felted edge hats, this one is by far the lowest profile welt. So slight of a bump that when I first pulled it out of the shipping box it looked to me (with my poor vision) like someone had removed a brim binding. It was only when I felt it that I realized what it was.
