Yesterday, we went on a Dinner Train ride in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampster... err, Hampshire, that is.

Panama Hats Direct, modified and re-ribboned by A. Fawcett.

The meal was beyond exquisite, with the best cream of wild mushroom soup I have ever enjoyed.
Now, to all of you who venture out in search of those wild delicacies ( @Michael A, @Cane Rod Maker, @BobHufford...) how would you advise me to safely start finding my own wild mushrooms? I see a new obsession on the horizon...

Try to befriend someone in your area that really knows his onions...err, fungi & organize an outing with them come shrooming season so hopefully they can show you some easily identifiable edible species. Remember too that if you go fungi collecting on private land, you'll need the landowner's permission.

Great looking hat Charlie. For mushrooms, joining a local club is probably the best way to gain knowledge. Here is a list that might have something local to you. http://www.mushroomthejournal.com/mushroom-clubs/ There should be a number of good edibles out now and this is a great time of year for finding lots of species, edible and inedible. Good exercise too.
