I really want to like Optimo hats ... I admire their work and materials without a doubt ... I've just never seen an Optimo block that was appealing to me

Part of the reason I like the block style is that it fits my face well and I like the wide brim. As with everything in life, its a matter of personal taste and preference. It would be a dull world if everything was the same style and there was no choice. In 1988 I traveled to China and the Mao suit was still in being worn by most people. How dull was that! I returned 10 years later and it had all changed and was for more interesting and enjoyable.

Love the Stetsonian! The center dent and pinches look spot on and perfect with that tall crown! I need to track one of these down in my size. A vintage Stetsonian is my dream hat but that's a long shot in 7 5/8 so a modern will just need to be the place holder

Thanks Jer. If it's any consolation there's many different configurations of vintage "Stetsonians." Many dont appeal me at all. The recent production model is fine for my needs.

It's a bright but not too warm day on the coast. A great day for this new to me '78 Borsalino that arrived yesterday. I tried to get the rumple out of the bow, but it looks like the rumple is there to stay.

I agree on the price issue and it will always be an issue. There are many extremely high quality alternatives (Art Fawcett comes immediately to mind).

My collection started at least 15 years ago at a store in Menlo Park CA called Fino Fino run by Carolyn Busch. Carolyn has retired and the store is now closed. Graham Thompson used to make an annual visit to the shop and meet with people by appointment.

I had just been diagnosed with a case of basal cell carcinoma and my dermatologist told me to start wearing a hat on my balding pate. I did the usual internet research on hat wear and came across the Fino Fino website with the announcement of Graham's visit. I just dropped into the shop unannounced and was able to get an appointment for a fitting. I purchased several hats that day and became addicted.

Optimo's style just happens to not be one of them.

Outstanding!! Modern Stetson gets a bad rap on here but I like them. You are seriously making me consider one of these Stetsonians!

It's so great to look at a retail hat display, in my own little living room, and pick out a hat that's just right for the day. Still coming down from the whirlwind trip to Ecuador, I have this inner craving to wear paja toquilla. It's looking like an 85F degree day. Hot but not stifling. I chose to go with the new brisa/open weave hat from Cuenca, and a blue silk Hawaiian print shirt.

Many of their traditional fur felt fedoras look to be blocked on very similarly styled basic crown blocks and brim flanges look to be pretty similarly styled as well. I just don't see a lot of style variations in their basic blocks and brim flanges. Pinches and crown crease styles are varied though.
