From the bounty of my black hat collection, here is an old Vanzina that might perhaps be a rare example of the work of this manufacturer before their absorption into Borsalino during or after the depression. The style has a tall crown and narrow brim, an alpine flavor which reflects the location of the retailer in Brunico, a southern Tyrolean city in Italy within 20 kilometers of the Austrian border. The basting thread that protects the ribbon and elaborate bow remains in place. I don't believe this hat was ever sold to or worn by a consumer. Daniele might have additional thoughts/information.

The historical Vanzina production is fantastic.
Borsalino bought the Cappellificio Vanzina after the WWII to have more sectors of the market, since they were identified as high end hats, The Vanziana must be the medium price products.
I have some Vanzina "styled by Borsalino" and they are gems, only one historical Vanzina production but it has brim faded.
Your Vanzina, Alan, is one of the example of the battle for quality during the late forties and forties of the Italian hat producers.
I like it very much! And black is one of my favorite color for hats.
Putignano has a very multicolored Carnival, here is more popular and link to some dishes distribute during a starving in 1531
Here an interesting survey, only in italian language https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnevale_di_Verona
