That is one awesome hat no matter the crease, but you rock a cattleman crease! I just love the felt on the 7XCB.

Thanks Red! I was fortunate to be the first owner of this hat to crease it. It is still sporting the dry crease that I gave it when it first arrived. Gotta love a vintage open crown jewel like this!

Very classy, and showy feather too. Is it a nice felt?
Thanks! Although I do like German hats, I always thought the feathers could be a bit tacky if they're too big. This one's an exception though, to my own surprise I really like it :) The felt quality's an interesting one actually. It's wool, but nothing like the cheap wool felts you find everywhere nowadays. It's really soft without being floppy and quite smooth to the touch, almost like a fur felt but not quite. I've only ever encountered this quality wool felt in older German/Austrian hats, I doubt they still make any like it.

Today I wore another German hat from my friend's inheritance: a bright red Mayser. Nowhere near as awesome as @EstherWeis ' huge red fedora, but I'm quite chuffed with it anyway. I am considering changing the ribbon to a contrasting one though - what do you guys think?

This striking red hat has great lines. I think a contrasting ribbon of a lighter color (grey?) would set off the brim/crown features. It is lovely.

Monday with a pale sun and some fog in the plan
Tonak in grey made in Czech Republic, one of my personal gift for birthday
rvdnpl.jpg

High end production in the heritage of the glorious Johann Hückel´s Söhne
qxv58h.jpg

The proportions are those of Central Europe hats, Steve (mayserwegener) shows, with great class, almost every day
b5r8yo.jpg

The felt is of the highest quality as well as the finishes for a hat formed by machines
I have not used the steam to form it, only I made a little pression on pinches
aniywz.jpg

I must say that the current colors of Tonak production are my favorite of this time

Keep it up my year dedicated to the purchase of modern hats manufactured at the factory :)

As always I have to say thank for your appreciations on the Saturday Barbisio
Buon Lunedì!
That Tonak is really beautiful, Daniele, very elegant! The grey seems to have a purple hue to it, or does it just look like that on the photos? How does the quality of the new Tonaks compare to other modern hats you own?

Knox Madison Ave on this fine Monday. Warm enough for a roofless drive to work. That makes me happy. View attachment 68016 View attachment 68017 View attachment 68018 View attachment 68019 View attachment 68020 View attachment 68021

Have a delightful day, everyone.
Now that's what I call a ribbon! Beautiful bow too. Which of the pictures best reflects the hat's true colour?

Our sound guy takes some cool photos. This was my favorite from sound check. Taken through a 9 foot concert Steinway. There's my falcon park back cherry lords hat.

The show went well, sold roughly 100 tickets, which, for original jazz in South Dakota, is pretty cool.

Ended up wearing my old Mallory derby to the concert, but left it in the green room during the performance in hopes of avoiding distractions [emoji39]

Nice personal birthday gift! All I ever get on mine are Happy Birthday texts from my kids and grandchildren. My ol' ball and chain is just as bad. I'm gonna send her to wife school.
No one in my family discuss on hats I own, it is a sort of Daniele mania and the gift for my birthday was my money spent for me  It is forbidden give me, as gift, a hat and no one think to do so....they will say to you he has a room full of hats ;)

Nice, Daniele. Great proportions, color and ribbon work.
Thanks Bama!

That hat is psychotically beautiful. Damn...
Matt I have some covet on your hats called psychosis for homburg:)

Beautiful Tonak Daniele, the color is superb. The lines of this hat are also very stylish. I like it.
Red Tonak made actualy very interesting hat. Thanks

The question, Celia, is interesting and involves some reasoning
Tonak, in its production of high end is almost at the top, actually, in the European producers.
Its range of products from 80 Euros to more have a quality hard to find in other producers.
The Czech company has some flaw in little attention to the finished product that is a bit standard for its intrinsic value. The comparison with Borsalino or Cervo-Barbisio, made with existing standards, leads me to say that Tonak still has a small gap in the taste of combinations of colors and a few old age taste in the shapes of hats, but the materials and know-how they have are first class and I do prefer to Borsalino products, of the same target, which are more expensive and certainly of lesser value
The purple hue is froma red brick wall on my right that give some "shade" when some sun is on it
The three Tonak I bought for my birtday are a real discover in quality!
Hope you are feeling better and the red hat is a winner

You have the makings of a great Agent Carter hat there, Celia.

Thanks Red, I hadn't considered grey yet. I'll have to take the hat to a haberdasherer's and hold some different ribbons against it to see what works. I've only got black and cream (undyed, can be dyed in any colour) grosgrain at home for the moment, but the latter's more narrow than the current ribbon.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, look after yourself and feel better soon!

Thanks Daniele, that's really helpful. I've checked out the Tonak website before and they have some really nice looking hats at pretty reasonable prices, but I was reluctant to order any without having seen/felt them in real life...

I had to google Agent Carter, is that bad? I don't watch much TV... Looks cool! That's given me another ribbon idea - and apparently my next lazy halloween costume, got the clothes, hat and lipstick already, thanks :)

Thanks Celia.

Its true colour??? Hmmm... That's a difficult question to answer.

It looks significantly different depending upon pretty subtle variations in lighting conditions.

For instance, as I look at it in incandescent light right now, it gives off a much more purple or plum cast instead of the blue grey that appears in the first of the photos from early this morning. I've even described the color in some lighting as periwinkle... but it's not as simple as that.

So... I guess my answer has to be all of them. But if I were forced to choose one photo as representative of a baseline color, I'd go with the solo shot of the hat from the side (number 5).

By the way... Love the red Mayser. I like the red on red very much. It lends to the hat a very elegant, self-confidence without being ostentatious. Of course, a contrasting ribbon certainly would be fun and look great, too. So essentially... I'm useless because I can see arguments in favor of both.

Jeez... This whole post is full of answers that are non-answers. Oh well...

Enjoy.
