giving this Stetson New York a test run with a crease that is out of my comfort zone
but like I tell all my students... the best way to not move forward is not stepping out of your comfort zone

A dark green Portuguese hat marked Pinho, Costa & C:a "Imperial". When I bought it for 150 SEK (16 USD) it had an open crown, which I have bashed to something diamond-ish. A remaining challenge is that it wants to bounce back every time I try to make it long oval.
This hat is from before 1969. "Pinho, Costa & Companhia" is one of the founders of FEPSA.

Consistently awesome, Michael. Nice find on the new hat!
Thanks Fed. I was happy to find both the hat and the new Filson double mac yesterday.

I love all of your filson/woolrich, ect heavy wool gear!

So do I. I'm a big fan of heavy wool. Big fan.

So, what's wrong with some judiciously applied moth nibbles? Nothing better than the earthy look of a hat with character!!

On another related topic, my wife of 37 years used to come to bed dressed in a variety of cute little attractive lingerie. Now she dresses like you in the last shot, Michael, ready to go hunting.
I can live with the nibbles. For two reasons, one they have almost the same hat, only with a shorter brim, in pristine condition and it's 5 times the price. And two, after steaming they became much less noticeable. I could maybe work on them, but I'm with you on the bit of character thing. Your Peters Bros is looking great.

For the second problem, you might want to get your organic furnace tuned up. Apparently it's not putting out enough heat anymore.

Small or not, looks good with that coat. Any idea as to it's age? Late 50s or early 60s?
Thanks Red. I'm not good on dating hats, but maybe someone else will jump in.

The satin liner is actually white as shown in the last photo, I took that first photo inside with a bad white balance setting.

Thanks all,
Michael

They are out there. Keep looking. I have a few.
The new ones from Tonak don't come close to the vintage lightweight double sided luscious velours, but it's better than nothing though: http://www.hatparade.eu/ladies-hat-bodies/hoods/doublesided-velour/mona-bds-ix-61-62-cms-94-g/

I love the crease, and I love the fact that one could theoretically change the bash everyday on open crown hats... not like shaving your beard, that would take a while to get to it's current length! ;-)

Great look Esther, would love to see the bow! Do you have a special cutter for trimming the folded brim edge? I've seen old ones out there...

When indecision strikes, I say "leave it to beaver." Here, the early golden longhair variety.

If I wear this one today I'll need to add a scarf to the mix, my ears are suffering.

It's been a busy lounge this morning. A metric ton a beautiful hats.

Looking dapper as always Michael, I admire that you do not let something like freezing weather hinder your style! The new hat looks great and I prefer the side view, from the front it looks a bit small to me, still a great hat :)

You have quite a small head Michael, must be a blessing to buy vintage hats with heads being smaller in the past an all that. I guess the foam is closed cell? No idea, it's very dense and compact, a kind of peach colour, but it might be made by a Spanish manufacturer and the equivalent in the US might be different.
Yes, quite small, a definite advantage for vintage hats. Is the peach color more to the yellow side or more to the pink side? I'm fairly sure I know which two types it might be, but not which one between the two. I guess I could go back and find your picture that you posted here.

They don't make them like that anymore! Really cool stuff and the pants look warm too!
O'Connell's has a great coat of even heavier wool I think, though with an alpaca pile collar rather than shearling.

You are looking very sharp today. Hat and boots are fabulous as usual. Do you have to insure your shoe collection, and if so for how much? Ha ha. I'm not asking about the hat insurance because I'm sure everybody around here has property, life and most likely medical on their hat collections.

To our Eco minded friends out there, my apologies, I cut this poor tree from it's roots and it goes to a slow death in my living room.
