This one is just a "Deluxe", Matt. I have a brown Vita-Felt Stetsonian that has a similar binding. Must be a Stetsonian thing?

I know that Moon's isn't a Stetsonian (if I recall correctly it is a Royal DeLuxe).

In some emails back and forth with Art Fawcett (I think) or maybe elsewhere on the Lounge, I recall reading that many of the wartime Stetsons ended up with what some would consider unusually colored binding and ribbons.

From what I gather, it was the result of material shortage as national production efforts were shifted towards the war efforts. So as Stetson ran out of the more popular blacks, browns, etc... they dipped more and more into their more obscure colors for trim.

Folks more knowledgeable might be able to add insight to the issue, if they haven't already. Really more appropriate for the Vita-Felt thread, I reckon.

In any event, however the binding ended up that way, you've got one heck of a special hat on your hands. Bravo!

And, oddly enough, From the WayBack files, on this day three years ago, my Lee Gold Label... and a similar coat to Harv. Harv's influence is everywhere on the Lounge!

Still the best smirk around.

Lots of rain... straight to Boy Scouts tonight after work... so I'm just taking the Outback oilskin hat. Less worry, less fuss, less anxiety when an unruly Scout decides my hat is a toy or a costume prop.

MrsFed, mi esposa hermosa, is really liking her Cavanagh (and I still wish it was in my size, LOL).

Stetson 7X Clear Beaver Quality, mode edge non-western, ventilated crown. This hat was restored at Optimo. I've used pieces from the original sweatband for repairs and other projects. The back of the sweatband appears to have been used for scientific notation at some point. Originally purchased at the venerable Pantke-Harpke store in Milwaukee.

If someone off the street asks me about the hat I am wearing today, my geeked out response would probably leave them quite certain that I am unhinged (they'd be right, but that's for a post in some other forum [emoji39]).

Its story is a fascinating glimpse into the establishment of the Jewish community in California.
