HUGE fedora day in Hanover, New Hampshire yesterday, with a two-straw sighting! I had the distinct pleasure of meeting our own Alanfgag in the flesh for a quick walking tour of the Dartmouth campus, then a great lunch. Me: a PHD Special Reserve re-worked by Art Fawcett; Alan: a magnificent vintage parabuntal.

Javadave- it is indeed a from-the-ground-up DIY project. The body is from Winchester, 100% American rabbit. As it is sand colored, maybe I'll call it my Beach Bunny.

Nice lids all around folks. You gotta love that old Borsa that tommyK is wearing. Anyway, I'll try my hand at posting here again. I'm a decent landscape photographer, but not so good at much else. When it comes to selfies I really stink, but here goes. This is one of the hats I obtained from 03SVTCobra a couple of weeks back. The size tag indicates that is was hand blocked and it is labeled as "The Stuart" and sold by Moe Penn in Brooklyn NY. It can use a little spot cleaning here and there, but is in great condition overall. Oh, the brim is 3" - a little wider than I'm accustomed to, but I'm really enjoying this hat a lot.

Nice lid, photogravity! Don't worry about that 3" brim, you'll get used to it. As far as selfies go, mine always look more like mug shots of a hat thief to me, yours don't look so bad!☺

You guys both do alright with the selfies! Everyone has their own style, or as in my case, lack thereof.

Photogravity that brim is SUPER for you, sir, IMO. Simply acclimating to anything different is against human nature, but that brim is really a good width for you.

Photogravity;
The 3inch brim suits you. I looks like a Cavanagh Edge. from here. Very hard to find.
At the Nikon school they told me, shoot a thousand frames maybe one will be worth keeping.
Moe ; great job, wish i had your talent.

They still remember you, Chamuco! I wish we had snapped a few more photos as we walked and talked. Maybe Alan did a better job of that after we parted ways?
Super nice Akubra, my friend; perfectly matched to your look today.

Thank You Mr. Jones for locating the "thingy" or "do-da". Here's a close up;

It's some kind of fabric but looks like corrugated cardboard. I think it's supposed to provide some air flow or prevent sweat from transfering through to the felt or some such

MacLachlan hats had the same feature. A corrugated section about 4 - 5 inches long, between the front of the sweatband and the felt, allowing some airflow.

Moehawk, all I need now is a number plate and a background with measurements. At least I'm in good company. ;)

hRm, I think the width works pretty well too, but I'm mostly wearing hats with fairly stingy brims, so this feels a tad strange. With those two Campdrafts on their way from down under, I'll surely be wearing some fairly large brimmed hats in the future.

ingineer, I wish it was a Cav edge but it's just rolled and sewn on the top. Is that referred to as a welted edge? I do have a couple hats with Cav Edges and they are very nice.

Excellent lids today, gents! I'm late to the party today, and so many nice hats have been displayed. I won't get everybody, but special kudos to moehawk's selfie with a self-made, Tommy's excellent Borso rescue and thingy identification, and photgravity's Stuart. Today, I pulled an old friend off the wall - haven't worn this in a couple of months.

My first "real" hat - Selentino Sterling in Grey, purchased the very first time I ever met Mr. Gus Miller.

Photogravity- maybe there should be a "Rogue's Gallery" thread of mug shots...if there isn't already.
Fruno-TY very much. Name brand lids are nice, but there's just something unbeatably cool about wearing your own work, especially when getting unsolicited compliments.
Ingineer- TY as well. Have you tried making your own? You might be more talented than you think. I started with repairs and refurbs, now I'm working on my fifth original. Still have a ton to learn, but loving the learning process. :)
hatsRme-Thank you for the compliment. I pounce as most do, sandpaper by hand, but I don't like to go much finer than 320 grit. I like the soft fuzzy feel. This Winchester rabbit has a longer nap than other rabbit felt I've used so far.

Gives me a chance to reference the worlds shortest thread:

http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?69577-Modern-corrugated-sweatband

I believe it serves 2 purposes, allow a bit of air flow and also a bit flexibility with fit. My opinion with no factual support.
