TJones--I like the ribbon work, and the thinner ribbon is the ticket for that hat.

I agree!

Checking through my inventory of western hats (including dress westerns) about 50 from 1905 to 1955, I couldn't find one with a ribbon darker than the felt color. There are some shown in the Miller Stockman catalogs. I had one tan 1920s Nutria Quality that was renovated with a new sweat and brown ribbon and a number of dark hats with lighter (and colorful) ribbons. Can't think of a reason why the style would favor a lighter ribbon... certainly not the case with dress hats.

Alan, fascinating info about ribbon color! I wonder about straw Westerns...

Today with a Tilley on an urban hike.

Classy and rare choice Garrett

JB, rather be where you are than where I am today

Greg, your attire would be appropriate today in T-town, downpour and high winds here. Still didn't prevent us from going out for brunch

I chose this early Cordova wool 8 dart in heavy wool courtesy of Che

Great ensemble, Mike. Had I known it was going to rain this much I would've shelved the Churchill today.

dh66, RJR, Bushman, g.durand: Thank you ;)

Joao, one of my favorites of yours! A old-style Western against the backdrop of a(n) (even older?) castle is very cool!
It's not a castle and never was. It was the "vacation" house of a family and was build in the XV century. It took several years to be recognised as a monument and because of that some walls have fallen and lost.
Because of the battlements everyone calls it a castle.

Charlie, Greg, g.durand, hatguy1, Joao, alan, thanks guys. I appreciate the comments on my ribbon and bow. I think the thin ribbon worked out best on that one....and the color seemed to dress up the hat quite nicely.

hatguy, g.durand, (I'd love to have a Knox 20 like that!), Joao, Greg, (the Tilley's perfect for the weather), very nice hats guys. I'm envious.

Is it me, or is that Tom Mix bigger than the vacation palace in the background!

Great Monday, gentlemen! I'm wearing a big down jacket today in the cold, and will probably use the hood. So this Retro Sport herringbone 8-dart cap, customized by Johnny.

historyteach. That's one sweet hat, I like the color.

S4C. That's a nice stetson. I need to invest in some bow ties, you and Greg make them look good.

Greg, you are looking sharp as always, that cap suits you.
