What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Hey Bowl thanks for noticing! How old is your Resistol? I don't think of Resistol being anything but western nowadays (I even had a handsome pecan Lucchese hat by Resistol about 12 years ago; was among my first ePrey sales and I made money on it!) Thx.

Ray, I think you're right in that Resistol only makes westerns now. This was a recent Ebay find with very shotty photos. I'm not good with dating hats (insert joke here) but since it has a stingy cavanagh edged brim, my best guess would be 1960s?

Someone please correct me or comment if you have a better idea. Auction listing:

I think I can faintly make out the "A Byer-Rolnick Product" under the crest, which is like my cav edge Resistol Stingy which other loungers also indicated was likely 60's

Ed - thanks for your note. Buffalo is not known as a mecca for astronomy... but the proximity to my equipment is excellent. Many solar observatories are built near water. This helps to minimize the turbulence caused by the radiation of stored heat into the atmosphere.

I hope to make a return visit to Mount Wilson Observatory to photograph the transit of Venus in front of the sun on June 5th. Little Big Man will ride on the plane with me. This site, just 18 miles east of Los Angeles, was selected after much study for its superb astronomical "seeing". It is also clear there much of the year. The light glow from L.A. is not a problem for the work I do.

A filthy, stinkin, lyin, tumblin, rebashed 10Xer Beaver
This hat, though worn all of twice since last year, may be starting to come around, after a very rocky road to the top of my rock head. I snagged this on ePrey for little money (<$20) and when it arrived, I almost puked when I opened the box. It stank so bad that I just tossed the whole mess out in the sun on the porch. I scored the seller who swore she had not doused it with some "freshener" agent, and then double-checked the box, which had contained bottled products of something, but no evidence of leakage. I'm certain she Fabrized it, or something. I was ready to just toss it and then, like today, a strong southerly came up the Hudson and the whole mess disappeared off my porch! Good riddance.

Later that afternoon, walking the dogs down to the boat-launch park, I found the box, crushed with tire treadmarks. Good riddance. Then I ran into the woman who manages the property down there and mentioned the hat, and she said she had found one....oh dear, it's back.

I brought it back, filthy from having done a tumbleweed rendition down to the boat launch road through winter muddy dust and salt. I set it back in the sun, with the sweat turned out and kinda hoped the wind gods would take it again. No such luck. But, the horrible air freshener smell was vastly diminished. So I tossed it in a clean box and stashed it for the summer.

This winter, I pulled it out and decided that it was the perfect candidate for my first rebashing. It had a tall western crown with upturned brims, at least until I got my steamer fired up.

What you see is after a year-long journey from the mid-west, along the banks of the Hudson, and extensive sunbathing. My question is, at 10X is it worth having washed and really rebashed? I am not familiar with the quality of Beaver Brand, although, this felt does feel good and is pliable, but not soft. Good red lining, but the sweat has a 3/4 crack in the front and it fits well. Other than a new Christy Trilby-ish fedora, this is the only black hat I own. Thoughts, suggestions?

The Rutland Country Cap, Dunn and Co., Great Britain tops my head this morning. A Harris Twead cap for the brisk morning that should soon warm-up to 50'F.

Back from the gym, a walk with the dogs, a short run and now twead capped for morning chores.
