I know this isn't the proper place to post this, but it's where I frequent most, when I'm here. Happy New Year one and all.

It's been a very tough year for me, I sure hope this upcoming one is better. I miss you guys.

You mention oxbloods. I wish that you could see (in person) the 30s oxblood Stetson featherweight that I pulled out of the closet this evening. I don't know if it's the cross you describe, but I have to think that you would really like it.

It sounds amazing. Please post pics if you can! If they're already in another thread, let me know.

Off to a good start in 2012, gentlemen.

Chepstow, that premier looks very sharp!

For what it's worth, bolthead, here's to a more positive 2012 for you and all. :cheers1:

I went with my Beaver Brand Classic 5X in sand last night/this morning. I was trying to look imperious and powerful! ;)

...but it came home with a spot of Coke on the crown, after I was thoughtless enough to put both it and my drink under my chair while playing...

Ahhh, the New Year. Since early this morning I have been enjoying the snow we recieved last evening. It was a small amount of damp snow and it really made the yard, lake and neighborhood look like the winter that I see in my mind. Just a fleece sweater to make me happily warm when working outside this morning. Pretty morning to be out and about in my vtg. Canadian Stetson Open Road. It is a 50's hat that I give much wear during my morning jaunts.

Off to check the depth of the ice on the lake. Being very, very cautious, Eric -

I said it before. I'll say it again...such magnificent hats on this thread! Thank you all for sharing them with us.

It's so windy up here this afternoon that I think I'll have to go with a beret for my evening stroll.

Happy New Year!

2011 Holiday Reprise

On this, the first day of 2012, I would like to wish all of my fellow loungers and their families a most joyous New Year, and also thought I would share some photos of our Holidays, from Thanksgiving through New Years.

My parents were visiting from Southern California, and early in the morning on Thanksgiving, while everyone still slumbered, my Dad and I went for a stroll around historic Lowertown, St. Paul. Early Crofut & Knapp Derby.

A curious pair of eyes.

The Brooks Building, built in 1892 as the Merchants National Bank, currently serves as the headquarters of a local commercial real estate company.

Lowertown is considered a Heritage Preservation District, and many of its buildings are on the National Register Of Historic Places.

A fabulous example of Richardsonian Romanesque archictecture, several exceptional examples of which are found in the Twin Cities area.

Black Friday breakfast at Cecil's Deli in St. Paul. '40s Stetson Whippet, in Bluegrass.

Delicious hot pastrami on house baked Russian rye. Cecil's really know how to do pastrami and corned beef justice, and the potato salad is marvelous.

Admiring a spotless Harley-Davidson CVO Street Glide parked outside.

We avoided the major shopping malls, but could not resist stopping by our favorite REI to check out the latest offerings from Ibex.

Inviting entrance leading to our favorite Italian restaurant in the Twin Cities, I NONNI.

The interior decor is charming, with vault ceiling detail and lovely fixtures.

We enjoyed the exquisitely prepared food even more. On the seasonal menu, I found the Agnello, a marsala braised lamb shank served with pioppini mushrooms and rutabaga puree, to be especially savory, but really liked everything we ordered.

Aglow with satisfaction following our meal.

Seems like our Holiday activities revolve around food and family, and so we were at it again the following morning. "Eat Street", Minneapolis. Pre-'46 Mallory Twelve-Fifty, in "Snow".

Albert Pike Masonic Lodge No. 237 in Hopkins, Minnesota.

The Fraternal Orders were in their heyday from 1880 through 1920 in America, serving an important role in local communities, much like the civic clubs do today. This lodge was completed in 1902.

We scoured the antiques shops and malls for hats and other items of interest.

No vintage hats of note to be found, but I was quite taken with this old advertisement. Impressive size, with brilliant colors and beautiful graphics.

Our stomachs growling once again, we headed to our favorite Szechuan place, Szechuan Spice, in the bohemian Lyn-Lake area of Minneapolis.

The wonderful chef, from Szechuan, China, makes three very different, equally scrumptious lamb dishes. This is the delightfully exotic "Ningxia Lamb", translated as "Szechuan Lamb" in the menu.

Ryan's favorite dish, "Szechuan Kung Pao Chicken".

Holiday lights aglitter on Lyndale Avenue.

Getting ready to step out for the Saturday evening concert. Late '10s-'20s Mallory Aristocrat Derby.

Map of the elaborate lace of skyways that connect much of downtown Minneapolis.

Orchstra Hall. We still had enough time for a few photos and a cup of the consistently excellent Chai Tea before heading to our seats.

Note the opera Supertitle above the stage. We were attending a fully staged production of Engelbert Humperdinck's masterwork "Hänsel Und Gretel", complete with mesmerizing giant puppets of the In The Heart Of The Beast Puppet And Mask Theater. Humperdinck was one of a group of brilliant, post-Wagnerian German composers from the late 19th to early 20th centuries, whose works are now sadly seldom played.

Taking my derby off to share a moment of conversation with a lady friend just prior to the performance.
