What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Javier-- that's a great trio of hats there-- it could be a catalog photo for a line of three distinct styles. Your black stingy (how wide is that brim?) of course being the top of the line.

Last night, in a new-ish casino, bootlegging post performance. Me in my Royal grey Stetson, my friend and colleague in his Akubra Federation. This is the guy who really got me going with hats. He has a handful of Akubras, and I don't think he'll wear anything else!

It is actually the same hat; the sweet vintage character it has, when added with different picture angles makes it seems different (I kind of like that about this hat). When I got this it was super dusty, looked gray -I'll dig up a pic... , A good brushing and I was just amazed at the jewel I got, to think it was going to be my beater, and here I am in NYC breezing about

I'll have to size the brim soon, TY for the kind words.

Thanks Alan. Yes, I'm really enjoying this hat. On the brim, although Bill had said it was 3 inches, I measure it as closer to 2 7/8, about the same as my OR style 7X. It is a big hat all around and I think the proportions work well.

As Bill noted, it is a rather large 7 1/8 so I've had to pad the sweatband a little, as I expected to have to. No problem though, very comfortable to wear. I remember our friend HatsEnough commenting that he has several of these 7X hats and they all run large, my size 7 OR 7X certainly fits like a 7 1/8. Did you notice one of his for sale on eBay? Obviously the least desirable one he had.

Glad you are enjoying this one... great hat in a style that seems to appear much less frequently than the bound brim/thin ribbon 7XCB variants. I did notice a few auctions from HE but didn't see anything to tempt me... thank goodness.

After re-reading and seeing that you indeed posted 3 photos of that black fedora I can see how my response was misleading-- my bad! Still a sharp looking lid, though.

Looks nice, what are the specs that were modified? I modified my Fed for an even 2.5" brim all around and it turned out very nice.

Very nice. What modifications did you make to the Fed IV and how did you do the "Hollywood" Brim?

Cut it down to about 2 3/8 all around to match my other hats. For the brim I just shaped it off-kilter in the front (bent it down more on the right side). Reshaping the opposite side in the back gives it an interesting look. I just wet the brim and used some soda pop cases to hold it to shape till it dried.

I'm considering going a tad shorter with my moonstone Fed brim to 2 3/8 as well (it's currently 2.5"), and it's nice to see that it works well.
