I agree. I have a Glen Grey as well and eventually will have the BG. Outside of maybe a vintage Stetson 7x Clear Beaver or Borsalino Alessandria you just can't beat 'em. They are particularly appealing to me as an everyday hat because they are considerably cheaper and more readily available then the nice vintage OR clones.

Test drove my two new ebay purchases in the kitchen this morning... a no.1 Stetson and Vanzina fedora - both from the 1930s. I wore the Stetson all day... they both fit like a dream! Close-ups of the hats on this thread:

On the move again...
You know Alan, I'd have to say that the wide brim with a taller crown suits you the best. It is in good proportion to your face & build. Well done on those ebay finds. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap

Cheers!

Great greenie, Neo'!!

Alan, those are wonderful old hats. I think the more western one needs a little downward swoop to the brim in front and a slight rise on the sides. I'm sure that old felt will respond willingly to a little steam and some coaxing, if you agree.

Mayser', you really rock a homburg, man!

Thanks for the feedback! These two hats have 25 years on me (and they've certainly aged better too)... I think I will let them sit on me for a bit while I ponder your advice. I didn't think I would like the western style hat so much, but it is really very comfortable and easy to wear.

Thank you. I generally prefer less taper, but I really like this hat. I wear it almost every morning while out for work, then sometimes I change hats for the afternoon.
