I read in Wikipedia that a hemp hat is hemp as in marihuana? Really? Weren't they illegal? I read that the fiber used had lower cannabinoids but it still surprises me.

Industrially grown hemp is not anything anybody would want to use as a cannabis substitute. It makes a pretty nice hat! I prefer the wheat straw used in Milan, but the newer made hemp straw hats are also a good value for their price point.

Same plant, but different than the strains used to produce recreational marijuana. Hemp fibers have been used to make rope and other woven textiles for centuries. Hemp is made from the stalks and has an incredibly low THC concentration that you would have to smoke a couple of kilos in a sitting to get anything out of it.

The US has not allowed hemp production since after World War Two, but the textiles made from it are legal and usually used for rugged wear or items with an open and airy weave. It makes for nice summer hats too. Wheat straw is harder/more expensive to make into hats and most of the Milan used in hat making today is a synthetic product. To me, hemp is far superior to synthetic Milan.

I just saw an 7 5/8 Art Fawcett Milan on Ebay. That would be around your size, wouldn't it Brent? Would it be real straw?

I saw that earlier too. The shape of the hat just isn’t me, but if it came from VS it will be a quality hat and it’s genuine straw. I’m sending a Panama to Art to have him reblock it and replace the sweatband. The Phoenix Hat Company is going to start making Milan hats soon and I’m first on his list; he just wants to perfect his process before he offers them for sale.

VS Panama. Doc says to keep out of the sun. A good hat can help out with that. My friend, here, didn't heed that advice and just look at what happened to her!

Thanks, Michael. Actually 90's temperatures are already pretty exceptional here. Don't think I have ever experienced something like 105 in my lifetime. You'll need all the straw you can get! Nice one today too btw.
Thanks Stefan. You don't want to experience it, unless you are in a sauna.

Rockin’ it today! Kind of a Neapolitan thing going on. Love it!

Thanks DH. Never been to Naples, but wouldn't mind going.

Just a glimpse of it is enough for my fix!
Thanks Stefan. It satisfied me too. Ha ha. It was ugly hot an hour later and I spent the day under the Sun Fari.

That's the temp inside the car with the windows closed, correct?
I still remember when I was a boy we were vacationing in Phoenix and I left a bagfull of plastic toys in the car. When we came back to it the whole bag was a ball of melted green plastic.

Wearing my Camel Optimo today.
The third pic is of Ixtlaccíhuatl (sleeping woman in Náhuatl, the Aztec language, because of its top outline) one of the two volcanoes to the east of the Valley of Mexico. On clear mornings it is visible from my balcony.

Wearing my Berman’s “the leather experts” silver belly Western hat today. I put a telescope in it and like it more this way. I wonder who felted and blocked the hat, because the felt is actually quite good quality for a department store hat. Certainly some kind of rabbit blend. Ironically, the leather sweatband is the least appealing part of the hat. It’s not bad, but absolutely not high quality leather or workmanship, and it is a little unrefined for presumably a leather products store whose motto is “the leather experts!”
