Sunshine, a Granite Gannon, and a dog that refuses to get in the picture. Maybe if Yahoody's horse talked to her.

Sent directly from my mind to yours.
They photobomb when least expected. Always love the Gannon.

Yeah... One sweet lid Mike.
I see you're ready for spring too, Mike. Good to see the duplex in action again.
Thanks Matt and Stefan. This hat is going to get some serious springtime wear. Maybe a little too much for a 90degree day in July though.

Greetings Red et al:
First i want to thank you for all your kind words and comments for my posts. I have a hard time keeping up with this place. Thanks for doing my homework on Mystery Black too. Very thoughtful again. You are a class act Sir, and that bi-colored straw is well matched.
Be well. Bowen
Thanks Bowen. I spend a couple of hours checking 400+ pages of a 1908 edition of the American Hatter on Google books. Nothing jumps out with this logo at all. Are there any other clues on this hat? You said the liner had remnants of a tip patch? Maybe something will come up from the shape? I live for research, I'm a geek that way. I wonder if this American is the felt/sweat company for the components of the hat? Tiz a puzzlement.

Wow Red: i’m bad about puttin stuff off but i’ll do some investigating tomorrow when i babysit. She’s always good for some hat shots. Ha. She popped the felt ribbon on my Stetson kinda Railbird last time. I’ll get a mirror behind the sweat. I know i read somewhere a ref for American Warranted and was thinking something to do with No Name Hat Co. and the Stetsons pre-Vanity. Thanks for the interest. Chat again my friend. Bowen
PS: wait till we get to the Berteil. Ha. B

It is a very fine weave straw. My 1st Dobbs. Only 2 logos on the sweatband.
Since the Dobbs name does not have a "R" registered trademark, this puts the hat before 1972, which is good. Now to look into the dates of the store it came from, I found the Grand Opening newspaper article in 1962. The other clue is the LA designation for Louisiana, I believe this was a post office thing in the mid 60s (not sure of the exact date). So this cool Dobbs is a 50-55 year old hat. Nice find.

According to the U.S. Postal Service website, two-letter abbreviations for states went into effect on July 1, 1963; they were modified from their previous forms to make room for five-digit ZIP Codes.
