What a great Bradford, do you think it is pre Resistol? It looks like it to me. That red liner with gold piping sure looks similar to early Resistol westerns though. Makes me wonder if there were company ties before Resistol bought Bradford.

I have a Bradford OR clone from that same era - I think they were already being produced by Resistol at that point. But I could very well be mistaken. Would need to see the inside reorder tag to know for sure.

I think Rick is right, according to a post from John Galt toward the end of this thread http://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/bradford-open-road-style.71174/ the patented Glyco-Tite process referenced on the sweatband of my hat (and Terry's) was being used in 1934 by Resistol. That and the similarities with the liner's design and printing seem to indicate that Bradford Ltd was always a Resistol company or brand. The earlier Bradfords seem to have been pretty high end while the newer one seem to be lower quality than most Resistols. I bought a Bradford that appears to be from the '80s at a local Goodwill and the sweat is bonded leather (leather scraps ground up and compressed into something resembling leather) and the felt is just so-so. It only cost $4.00 so I bought mostly just to compare side by side with my older one.
I'll reply to this post with a picture of the reorder tag on my hat in a few minutes.

I don’t know where the seller found it, and when I find a hat I like in my size I don’t ask questions about its provenance. If he stole it from you all I can say is that it’s mine now.

Steve, I believe I have liked every hat I have seen you post but this one stands out. Obviously the brim stands out, but everything else, felt, liner and sweat seem to say this is a special hat. Thanks for posting it.

The Battersby is one of his finds, digging in piles of hats (like we could only dream of) in a Dutch thrift store.

I've had this headstall on my eBay watch list for years. I have a hatband by the same artist. We actually have a city stable quite close to where I live. I'm about 400 miles from Brooklyn but I grew up in the city. I still shy away from anything larger than a German Shepard.

Yes, Buffalo since 1972. The stall has been for sale for a long time and it is high. The maker is a very important figure in Navajo silversmithing history - works with his mark show up very infrequently.
