Beautiful hat, Alan. Great John Wanamaker's logo, too.

Would you tell us about the painting, please? I really dig it.

Thanks Matt. The painting is a self-portrait of my Dad from the 1960s. His house is filled with work painted from the 1940s up to recent years. We don't have much unfilled wall space at our house but I've always liked this one. I brought it back with me after he passed away in December.

Your dad seemed like a true old school gentleman, and he was a snappy dresser too.

"Beautiful hat"

Isn't it wonderful to have a place that is so genteel? Where folks say thank you, mean it, and compliment each other on a regular basis. The old school values shown to each other here are appreciated.

Thanks for saying it. Have enjoyed your posts. There are certain members that you'll want to avoid. They know who they are.

Spent most of the day with the hound in the Dorer bar 50. He decided to go hatless.

First day back at the office after an amazing paternity leave. Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers -- my baby girl Rafaella was born on 1/31 - healthy and strong!

For Ash Wednesday, my pale blue 1950's Stetson St. Regis with a new/antique merlot ribbon accented with a fine-point brush.

I'm so sorry to read of your loss. But it is fine to see that his legacy lives on in hats, art and the talent he has passed on in his family.

His use of geometry and color is just striking. Thanks for sharing it with us.

An old Borsalino I purchased and gave to my dad many years ago. It's a little small for me but with a gentle stretch I can wear it. From the Zlateff Bulgarian collection that is purported to have been made in the 1930s and kept in storage during WWII. Not sure this is true, but it is an earlier hat. A very fine velour that could be a cousin to another velour Columbo I purchased more recently.

Wonderful piece, Alan. Your father took great care of it looking at its condition.
