I've only seen advertisements. I seem to remember someone on the Lounge posting one. When I speak of building a custom around a whip stitch, this may be an option for a clone, in baby blue (?). This is dangerous, I'm going down to Mike's tomorrow, may come home with a new creation in the queue!
Any word on when your Slats (?) is up on the block? I'm thinking a Playboy clone in medium blue is next on my list.

I'm going down to Mike's tomorrow. Hopefully good news, it should be close to being top of the queue. I'm going to take some pictures of all of his new hat making equipment, it is really cool! I'll be posting tomorrow on the NW Hats thread.

Chores done, showered and changed. Heading out on a walk before it hits 90'F. I will wear the Ecuadorian Panama Hat Co.'s milan. Lovely vintage milan.

Is this hat old vintage or a new custom? It has so much character, winner!

Hi Red, the hat is a custom Raiders hat, made by David Garrison (Garrison Hatters http://garrisonhatters.com/ ). I've had it for 4 or 5 years and use as a go-to outdoor hat.

It has survived heat, rain, snow - everything that can been thrown at it - and is still in great shape.

When the ribbon gets too sweat stained, I just wash it under the tap.

David makes super hats, Steve Delk (The Adventurebilt guy) helped him get started, with blocks and education. I bought mine for about $150 when David was having a sale - worth every penny!

Cheers! David

The best modern production hat I own and also the best modern felt I've handled including customs

You can get an idea of how nice the felt is in the video below

Lotta nice looking lids this Sunday afternoon. Everyone looks great. I'm enjoying some coffee by a Japanese Maple that I grew from a seedling. Wearing another of my conversions. This is my Stagecoach Tallboy, so named for the tall crown.

Just bring a beater or any raw brim hat you have and ask him to throw a whipstitch on it. See if you like it first...
and then do your custom.

You may have been thinking of Alan. I know he had, or has a 3X Stetson Tijuana, (Stetson's version of the Gay Prince), in Suede Finish. I have a Stetson Premier in Suede Finish that may be a forerunner to the Tijuana. It seems to be a pretty rare hat. I've only seen two others like mine. A lounger has one of the two I saw. No one has been able to find any info on it so far....I haven't even messed with the crease. I left it just as I received it...It's a 2 5/8 raw edge brim with a whip stitched felted hat band. The other two I saw are the same way. Unfortunately, this hat's too small for me.

There are a few dedicated posts to the Dobbs Gay Prince and a smattering of examples posted in other threads - from Dobbs and in like styles from other makers during the same era. I've owned several. Most were substantial felts of a sueded finish, though one Dobbs shown below is a lightweight hat with a heather finish.
