Here's what I have. I thought I took more pictures, but one during the pouncing is all I took. As you can see, there was a good deal of material coming off. I had to sand then brush away, repeating the process over several times until I felt it was thin enough. Then I used a few different grits of finer sand paper to get a smoother finish...
In the process of pouncing. I had this stuff going all over the place.
It was messy.
Flanged the brim and creased the crown
Finished off with a mid ribbon

That ribbon change out makes all the difference in the appearance;very nice.Nice color combo on that one, Red. If it's a fairly low crown as you say, you may also want to switch out the wider ribbon for a mid ribbon.
I had to do that with this modern Premier Whippet that Uhu gave me. The crown was just too low for a wider ribbon. The mid ribbon looks more proportionate to the crown height, I think...
