Thanks GHT! Wish her a belated "Happy Birthday" for me.
Thank you kind Sir, she replied. You are ahead of the game my friend, my name too is Robert, although I have never been a Bob, Mother was meticulous about it. Being born at the height of the actor, Robert Taylor's fame, having the same surname and Mother being a big fan, my name was never going to be anything else, unless the opposite gender popped out.
It's going to be an extremely busy day tomorrow, I shall get in from work at about five am, a good scrub up, clean the teeth and straight to bed, up at eleven, shower dress and on the road by eleven thirty, stop off at one of our favourite eateries for breakfast/lunch and then onto this gig.
I'm mixing the day wear, if it's raining I shall wear the Stetson, it's Caribou colour, goes nicely with the outfit I'm wearing. But hopefully, the sun will be out and I shall wear one of Esther's finest. By the way Esther, that off the shoulder look was all the rage back in the fifties, it was deemed shocking too, whipped up into a frenzy by our press. Reason was, on the bare shoulders was no bra strap, therefore the implication was, no bra. That was totally unacceptable, shocking even. There would be tut-tutting letters to the newspapers. Have you no morals woman?
This will be my attire for tomorrow, how I love this hat:

Nice look. Tell us more about the Borsalino. How were you able to date it so precisely?

Under the band is a small label, that has serial numbers. When I purchased it I inquired about them here and was told by several of the folks who restore hats, that certain ones in the sequence gave the date of origin. It's been a good 10 years or so ago, but as I recall Art F. helped me out a bit on it over the phone.

The Borsa was an eBay find...out of Sweden. I searched for over a year before finding it, finally realizing I could check the international site versions as well. ;-)

Cheers,
M

At one of the schools where I teach, today is Fashion Friday. So I decided to dress to the nines. The Fedora is a 1941 Borsalino, the suit is a Magnoli custom 1930's era, italian wingtip short boots, gold and ruby tie pin, and even Boker pocket knife from the mid forties.

Thanks Matt! I remember enjoying the research into the store, which was well documented in old trade references. It moved up and down Main St. several times during the mid 1800s so the address imprinted in the crown was a help in dating.
The chasing down the history is just such a blast.
Fantastic that the hat is tied to your hometown, too.
Extra, extra special.

Good afternoon. I headed out in a vtg. Stetson Playboy. In the mid-day partly sunny weather the blue-gray felt seemed to be topped by a blue shaded ribbon. Love the color hues and their changes!

The hat waits with my other "supplies" in the backseat. (r-l: Cordova Cap,Gannon, Playboy, Stratoliner and a Stormy Kromer.)

Best, Eric -
Eric, I'm really liking this vintage Playboy in blue gray! I'm on the block now at Art Fawcett's new shop for a 1940's Playboy clone in Blue Smoke with a tone on tone ribbon. Should have it in a couple of wks.

Hope you will post your pics on one of the Playboy threads which have been rather inactive for too long.

Thanks for sharing. It would be great to see more photos of the hat and labels on the Borsalino Brotherhood thread. The serial number with date numerals was used in the 1980s but alas not in the 1940s. A 1941 Borsalino would be a very rare hat.

Great looking and casualized Homburg. Original ribbon? Great contrast. I like to call in "Well", when I'm feeling crappy it is best to share that with everybody.
Thanks, Mike.

Yeah... original ribbon.
Pretty darned cool,
unconventional
choice by the designer,
or perhaps a wise customer.

While I consider myself to be fairly
conventional...
I dig.

Sweet Knox you got there.

I do believe that you will have another
Sweet hat on your hands within
the next several hours.

HAVE A BLAST!!!

These photos are made early in the morning going to the office.
Today traditional, special food for the Friday of the dumplings, not specified as not to offend the sensibilities of animal lovers, then parade of floats with the popular masks.
Yesterday was the Thursday before Lent, today the feast of St. Zeno district, patron of the town

For the morning walk wearing a French hat vintage as wine, Italian, drink today

It is a Thibet made for the Meer hats shop in Stasbourg

I believe this is one of the rare hats I possess that can come from before the Second World War
16bwo5v.jpg

It is made of mixed felt, wool and fur in a deep blue. Without lining

Its dimensions are generous and very comfortable

I thank you for your compliment and comments on homburg Tonak, worn yesterday.
For the parade I will will wear a Borsalino more small proportions
The day was very gray and my hope, like that of all the people of Verona, is that the rain remains in the sky.
Your European hat dyes are killing me.

Matt, I've always taken the position that you should have at least as many Well days as Sick days.

Great Vita-Burg.
