A cold rain today. The Stetson Gun Club kept my head dry.

It's an icy one in Iowa today, be careful if you are in the area. Some very nice hats on the lounge again today. Must catch up.

Michael
Did the rain freeze on that Gun Club? I like the vest with that jacket. Glad you are feeling a little better.

Another beautiful hat, I really like the size and shape of the brim on this one.

Wormser today, thanks to a trade with rclark. Not sure I'll keep the cattleman crease, but the hat fits perfectly. Thanks, Rick!

I'd never even heard of Selentino until now. Looks like you've got the right weather for a fuzzy hat there. Great pics as ever!

Bonafied Hat Co in rust.
I like that braided ribbon, did you add it yourself or did the hat come with it?

Beautiful hat! Is the blue in the 2nd and 3rd pictures close to the true colour? It looks really nice and vibrant there.

I see it 4x :p Do I spot your dog sneaking into that last picture?

Resistol Beaver 25. This is one of two I have but some verdigris had nearly destroyed the hat before I got it. I was able to salvage the sweat but the ribbon and wind trolley were rotted. Decided to go with a contrasting setup I got from Scott. The boots, mid 60's TL's I snuck in for Mr. Hemingway.

Thanks Celia!

Hey guys! I've been away on business for a week-and-a-half so I haven't been able to stop in.

Backtracking: I gave my little presentation on how to fold hats to my wife's AP English students. They were very impressed with the little bit of knowledge I had to share and they loved checking out my small (to them huge) collection of vintage lids. In the presentation, I covered different hat types, crown and rake styles, brim types, lining types, fur qualities, popular vintage brands, how to measure your hat size, and (finally) I gave a demo on how to steam, fold, and brush a hat. They loved it! They wanted to know where to find a good beginner fur hat to practice folding—I recommended both ebay and D'Aquino on Etsy (some like vintage; others prefer new). Then they asked where they should go for a good custom hat (for when they feel like they can properly appreciate a good hat)—I recommended MC Gannon based on everyone else's stellar reviews, and also because his price range isn't totally unreasonable for a college student. The kids started a group-chat to geek out about their newfound hat lust.

Anyway! Today, good ol' Lock & Co:

Welcome back! I was wondering where you and your excellent homburgs had disappeared to :)

This is one of my favorite hats in my collection
dnesf9.jpg

It is one of the few that I think comes from before the Second World War, but I'm very restrictive with the dating of ancient hats
91jtvp.jpg

It is a Thibet Luxe made in France
2sbtt8i.jpg

Its uniqueness is felt. Black, soft and shiny, without having a pronounced hairiness. It is probably a mixture of wool and fur, or if it's just the fur is a special mixture used to achieve a similar result
9kpjlk.jpg

The dimensions are very similar to homburg last week marked A. France in brown, imposing
mtt214.jpg

The excellent finishes are those of a world that no longer exists in the hats production

Here is the inside of the hat and the particular of the brand

You must be on the other side of the world to me, it was -8C here this morning, I could do with some of that heat you're having. At least it stopped snowing. Hope your hat helps against the sun!

I'm glad you seem to be recovering from the flu. Keep yourself warm & dry - and keep postimg your great pictures of course ;)

Yesterday I went to Alentejo to visit some relatives I didn't see for a year. Also went to some abandoned places were my mother lived her childhood.
Behind me was a school my mother went when she was 10, now 60's years after, sadly it's abandoned. This type of school was a demand of Salazar to literate the population and a lot of them are scattered in Alentejo even on remote places like this one. Even today, no paved road is available to get there.

Today this giant hat

Loving the ribbon on that first hat. I hope you had a nice time with your relatives. Such a shame about the school being abandoned and seemingly left to fall apart, it looks like it was once a beautiful building.

I've been trying to post this all day but it's been a busy day! Finally caught a break to post.

"The Dallas" goes with me today.

Thanks Bob. Abt 2 and 3/4 inch.
I've always liked the Alessandria but thought the smaller (2 1/2") brim didn't suit it. Your hat is something of a revelation to me, as it just looks "right." When and why did they switch to the smaller brim? Your hat was a great find: in fact, I'll keep it in mind for my next custom.

Lol. Liquid...? Well then "Cheers" my friend.

Was thinking about that. Been inside all day. Could use a wet one, but the place I want to go is closed for the Holiday. Sure would like to put on a hat and go have a pint, though.

Thank you kindly, Celia, and I wish that Borsa fit you! Yup, my dog "Miles" is the friendliest pooch around; to a fault, even!
Here he's demonstrating his stealthy moves of affection on poor, unsuspecting Lauren...

The ribbon is original to the hat, the hat is a Resistol Stagecoach made between 1979 and 1982. Model name is "Johnny Fry"

It was a short time with my relatives, my grand-aunt is 92 years old but she's on a wheelchair and loosing her memory. She is very very close to my mother almost like a second mother.

The school is on ruins, all windows broken, the roof is collapsing. My mother tells it was always clean and it had a garden. It was the students that took care of it but it's closed for many years now.
My father went to a school just like this one but it's a bit far from this one (well by car it's like 5-10 minutes) and it is in a worst condition with no roof... just the walls. The Portuguese government tried to sell it cheap but no one bided on it...

Haha, got to love that picture!

It was a shame about that Borsa because it was a really nice hat. Hopefully it has found an owner who appreciates it as much as we do :)

Hey all!
Spent a lazy afternoon trying to make a Sears hat look different than it's Montgomery Ward twin by changing the ribbon and bow to one inspired by a J. C. Penney hat.
Pilgrim, customized.

I went from a 1" ribbon to a 1 1/2", with a bow inspired by my 20's Marathon. Might get some minor tweaking before all is said and done.
Have a great day!
