Welcoming the new year with my great grandfather's topper as requested by Michael A.
His name was Manuel Gonzalez Calzada, and lived in Salamanca. His initials are stamped in ink on the inside. The hat shows it's age, but I'm greatful it has survived.

It is great that it survives Kuki & that you have it! Take lots of detail documentary photographs & photographs of both you & your brother wearing it for preservation & for future decendents in your extended family.

Wife and I pulled ourselves off our "death recliners" (don't get bronchitis and migraines at the same time) and made it out for a short walk with the dogs. We were wearing our go-to farm hats. My American Hat Co. 3X and her beater Resistol. Yeah ... some farm dogs have it easier than others.

I could have easily worn my old USAF pith helmet today, but instead wore my Akubra straw for my Sunday afternoon walk. Temp is still 65 here in NE Texas now, and humid.
My first Pith helmet, a gift from a great Anerican Friend, was worn by his uncle in the pacific during WWII, its dated 1941, I never use it, its a display item, I feel I am,not entitled to wear it.

Nothing beats a hat with real background !!
