Great looking display of lids this hot and muggy afternoon. Everyone looks great as usual.
Gave my Stagecoach Indyesque conversion another reblock and recrease. I gave it a higher and tighter pinch and made the dents a tad shallower. This shows more profile of the hat at a 3/4 angle...

Hey all!
Mallard Monday?
Mallard Monday!!!
The sweatband on my 40's Dobbs Game Bird went Crispy Duck on me, and became pretty clear Saturday night that there was no saving it. So, last night, I plucked and gutted it, stuffed it with a new sweatband from Bond, and now have mounted it on a suitable platform.

and since Fruno insists I show my work :):

Have a ducky day!

Still a beautiful hat, Moe. Sorry about the sweatband.

Whoa......heat and humidity is back. A vtg. Adam Milan this late afternoon is offering protection from the sun. It is 1 of 2 hats (both Adams hats) I picked up this weekend. Both hats in similar boxes with only the printed name and penciled in price being different. They were sold from the same gentleman's closet to the vender I picked them up from. The box for this hat is marked a rice of $7.95. I believe it is an excellent price.

I hope to be able to show respect and dignity to these hats needing a home. Adams hats matter. am proud to gently wear these grand hats.

BTW: For those who missed the other hat in the Hats and Beverage thread here it is;

Have a ducky day!

Looks amazing. Thoroughly professional. I had exactly the same issue with my Keens gray fedora and went the 100 % homemade route. I will post photos soon. The result feels fantastic but lacks the finish of yours, since I hand cut and hand stitched the whole thing, with my limited lifetime-spent-in-an-office hatter skills.

I've also lost all sensation in my middle fingertip. One day, I will learn to use a thimble

Thanks!
Practice certainly improves results, as does a sewing machine with a zigzag stitch for the sweatband seam...I've tried making a sweatband a few times with poor results. Even though I am a dedicated DIY'er, I will defer to a pro in instances such as this. Hand sewing the thing in is enough of a challenge for me! :)
Keep plugging away, it's a good hobby!
And, get used to poked fingertips.

Here's a before, during and after sequence showing how I replaced the 'crispy duck' sweatband in my Keens/John Franks fedora. Incidentally, it was all self-inflicted: although this vintage hat already looked pretty fine, I suddenly wanted a boxier crown. So I decided to reblock it and stuck it in my trusty garbage-bag-plus-kettle hat steaming device (works great on newer hats)...with instant and catastrophic results!

I cut the new sweatband from a sheet of antique, soft jacket leather and went to work. I re-used the original interface tape, brim wire and bow. Tested it several times to ensure it would be a perfect fit and, eventually, after about 10 hours' work... finished. I guess I can live with the bad stitching here and there. And it now feels custom made.
