Ended up as a two hat day - this one, the Vita-Felt Eagle, is closer to my heart ;)

Like I think many of us I started with 2-21/4 inch brims. When I tried on a 2 1/2 + I thought it looked like a beach umbrella. After a while the shorter brims looked like bottle caps. Now I just enjoy the variety.

Tom, it's all in your perspective I guess. Wearing cowboy hats since I was young I was used to 3 - 4" brims. When I came down to 2-5/8 -2-3/4" it took a visual adjustment. I haven't gone narrower that 2-1/8" yet.

I like the looks of a flat cap with a big beard but if I wear an 8-panel or even a 6-panel it's like it's too much material & looks like a mushroom cap on me! I have to wear something more form fitting like a Cuffley. For example:

Louis Hayes on drums if I am not mistaken ... great record
Correct! My vinyl is more or less used up by now

Mingus! Bass master!

I like when bas players is taking on the role as band leaders.
Rock solid rhythm section and plenty of room for everybody.

In order to come back on track - Here is what I consider to be the right sort of crown shape for me (tall-ish and slightly tapered):

Well the brim is probably a fraction to wide for me

Me too, the black Susquehanna Mason is a tad more formal. When I was in my mid 20's, I needed glasses for distance vision. My optician told me that later in life, a minute shrinking of the body will bring the retina back in place. He was right, but only for a few years. What he didn't tell me was that I would need glasses for reading, and I am forever leaving my specs here, there and everywhere. So now I've bought a few pairs of those cheap things, I have a pair in the bedroom, the kitchen, the glovebox in the car and one pair always in my pocket. (I've actually been looking for them when they have been perched on the end of my nose.)

What a fabulously sculptured beard. Compliments to you.

I understand completely. The most critical eye is our own.

Anthony--the Gannon is amazing. Great choice on the ribbon and felt combination. Congrats.

Harv--yes, the RMs look OK out of the box but it definitely need some reworking. I'm happy with mine.

Thanks to you both for the comments on the Strat.
