We're having a break from the heat, so I'm taking a break from straws. Wearing my Premiere Strat today.

Good looking ids today, fellas. A catch up from the last two days....

Yesterday, modern Stetson OR straw, reshaped. From what I've seen here on the Lounge, this may be the same hat body that Hatco uses for the original 47 and others.

moon--Thanks. The OR straw comes in a cattleman's crease but I've reworked it several times with steam and a crown block. It might have saved me the trouble to have just bought a 47. But what it did is make me want another one in the original cattleman's crease. Oh, boy, it never ends....

G.durand: I'm pretty sure the OR straw is the same hat body as the Panama Original '47 that I shared yesterday. The new Original '48 that Stetson is currently offering is a shorter brim and probably a smaller lower crown.

g.durand, I never imagined my panama OR could be reshaped. How gentle did you have to be with the steam/reshaping? Does the structure of the straw take a hit? Or does it take the transition well? I'm imagining several reshapings might be troublesome. I love it the way it is with the Cattleman's, but seeing yours...

David-the application of steam softens the straw and makes it pliable. You still have to be careful pulling it down over a block because the straw weave is more fragile than felted fur. I didn't try to pull it over the block all at once, but applied steam and gradually got it there. If you're careful the weave will maintain its integrity. I took the factory shape out of the crown by blocking it to an open crown then creasing it by hand, using steam again. I reshaped the brim by ironing it over a flange just like you would with a felt hat.

Good evening folks. It is a comfy 64'F evening. The still air has the Minnesota bird, mosquitoes, out in "flocks." A hat or cap is needed for protection.

I wore my vtg. Stetson Stratoliner out for a sail earlier. It is a very soft and malleable felt. I need to spend some time working the crease as it changes and shows any bumps and jumbles that my daily travels give it. Some steam and it would provide a more secure crease. Perhaps this weekend.

I received today a new City Sport Cap in Harris Wool. After seeing many posts of this manufacturers wares in the Cap thread I thought I should see what the buzz is about. Pictured in this post is my new cap in brown with green/blue/red hints. I am enjoying the cap this evening.

G.Durand; The hat has character in spades. Perhaps that is the similarity, hat to myself, that makes it attractive. BTW, your stars hat is GRAND! I recognized the origination of the hat blocking and find your take immensely superior.
