Emerson Star Quality Eight-Fifty while grilling kabobs. I LOVE this hat. I really think 2 5/8" is the best brim width for my face...

Catching up a bit. Thanks for the comments on the boater.

-----------------------

Randall - Lovely Borso. I haven't been across to Calais for a few years - daft as it's as close to me as London. Enjoy the English ale.

Jeff - I love the wide ribbon on that Dobbs.

AnA - The Beaver Brand/ NW conversion looks wonderful.

David - Three great weekend hats and a beautiful looking Guinness.

Eric - I love the charcoal contrast on that VS clone.

Alan - great find on that Borsalino.

g.d. - I loved the photos of Mendocino, and the Stetson works beautifully with the trucker jacket.

Andy - That Penney's looks great on you. (If you enjoyed the Stilton (they do vary a bit depending on dairy) look out for Stitchelton - made to the Stilton recipe, but vwith unpasteurised milk. Cornish Blue (supposedly one of the world's best blue cheese is worth a hunt too).

Jeff - That Tumwater is beautiful.

Eric - That VS dove is gorgeous.

David - I always enjoy that dualist.

TJones - They've done a great job on the clean & reshape of that Stetson.

Che - great looking cap.

Charlie - I can see why you like the Machlachlan. Great looking homburg too.

g.d. The optimo looks great on.

David - lovely artlite

AnA - The Emerson does have great proportions.

Great OR. Great thin ribbons all today. Too many to list since I last looked. Keep up the good work.

ManofKent - standout look. That panama looks right at home with that suit. Youhave that small southern town lawyer vibe going on

Many thanks for the kind comments and the wedding wishes. It was a great long weekend of hats!

g.durand you are so right... she's off the payroll! That new-to-you Optimo is YOU, sir!
DJH, that rain prevention technique works better in reverse... if you wear a good straw, it will rain. Lovely Strat today, David.
TJones...I thank you for the greatest compliment. As a "hat person," it means a lot coming from you (the collection comment, sir)!!! THANKS again!
Alan thank you most kindly for the wishes of mazel. It is an amazing set of emotions swirling over the last few days.
Richard thank you for the comments! Your Olney ribbon is one of my favs!
GTDean will be hopping in that beautiful BB kangaroo...
Perry, nobody wears an OR better than you, sir!

Today, even though it IS TAR Tuesday, I am stretching the straw season with a six year old DOBBS shantung(?) from Burlington Coat Factory.

Thanks dh66 - the closest I got to being a lawyer was a law degree, but I changed tack when I did my masters and have forgotten most of what I knew :)

Thanks to other folks for the kind comments.

At the Minnesota State Fair Saturday morning. OPTIMO Montecristi.

There is something comforting in our annual indulgence in fair food. Dole Whip

We were back at the State Fair for the second time in a week, not for the food or myriad activities and events, but rather to support our Minnesota Orchestra musicians who have been locked out by management for nearly a year now. It was wonderful to hear our friends in the orchestra, as well as some fabulously talented young musicians from the Young Musicians Of Minnesota playing incredibly beautiful and heartfelt chamber music.

And so another year, and another wonderful State Fair filled with new discoveries and experiences passes into our memories.

Getting to the Labor Day weekend flea market a day later than usual on Sunday. OPTIMO Montecristi.

On the prowl.

Interesting '30s 'Air-Way' Essman Process ventilated straw boater with frayed ribbon.

I could not resist the charm of this very early, very diminutive Bardwell 'Model Glo House, Minneapolis' derby.

In Minneapolis in the late afternoon for an early supper in advance of the Adam Ant concert.

Temperatures dipped into the 50s by Labor Day morning as we headed to breakfast. OPTIMO Montecristi.

Back to the flea market for the old 'Air-Way' boater, a tad too large for this little kid but a bit too snug for the big kid.

Sitting down for our evening meal at the Mystic Lake Casino Buffet after catching the excellent film 'The Grandmaster' at a nearby cinema.

Home at dusk so that Ryan could prepare for the first day of his final year of high school.

The deciduous foliage here in Minnesota is already beginning to display its Autumnal blaze of color, and we have had our first temperature in the forties this morning. I am saddened by the transitions that define our lives, especially this one, since I have had a Montecristi on my head every single day since the middle of May.

Non Semper Erit Aestas!!!
