I just can't keep up at the moment - fantastic hats all around.

The power canal - the canal was first operational in the 1830's and powered the mills that are a little way downstream

The canal system has been invaded by non-native weed and efforts are under way to clean it out again

We had "Youth Orchestra Camp" last week, and all the kids in my beginning orchestra wanted me to wear a different hat each day. Obviously I was happy to oblige. One of the young bassists made a deal with me that he'd wear his cowboy/hunting hat if I did on the same day. So out came my Montana Peaks Gus hat-- a very fine hat that even I get a little too shy to wear around town sometimes!

Others represented were my Baron Bowler:

Man I really like the bowler, I could picture you with a short cigar in your mouth , a bottle of whiskey ,a deck of cards,
sitting at a gambling table on the "Mississippi Queen" wearing that hat with a double breasted waistcoat!

Thanks fashion frank! I got the whiskey and cigar down, but I've never had a knack for cards. [huh]
Now the double breasted waistcoat is an idea! Where the heck can a guy find one of those? You live up to your name, sir! Very nice OR today.

rlk, DJH, Manfred, gt, Alan--as usual, excellent and varied takes on the term "hat" today.
DJH, I'm intrigued by your water treatment on the Portis Milan. Although Optimo re-blocked this one for me, I would like to add some pronunciation to the pinch. I'll have to work up the nerve.

IMG_2628_zps854e8dce.jpg

GD, the black Milan is a super looking hat. You could probably work the pinch a little with some steam if you don't want to give it a soaking. There is a post around somewhere where Josh completely changed the shape of a Milan hat, using steam only.

For mine, it would just spring back, hence more drastic measures. Of course, it was an eBay bargain hat so not as scary as working on an Optimo.

Great hats over the past couple of days. I particularly like Bowlerman's Baron, and GD's Milan.

Frank, very nice!

Jeff, which hat did they like best? That Gus's brim is superb!

David, looks like you and your friend had a swell time! That water looks refreshing!

Robert, I am loving that floppy bow on that boater! Very nice!

MoK, great cap!

Pre-20s Feiges Beaver for me again today! I am loving this hat!

Nice hats again today, gents.
ff--good look again today with the OR.
DJH--nice, cool looking straw. Thanks for the photos of your rambling. Steam didn't work on the Optimo. It's springy like yours. I still don't have the nerve to wet it down, though.
b-man--nice catch up. What a contrast in styles. From the bold and brassy to the sublime. Seeing the Bobby Blue sent me to Art's website just to, you know, browse....
rlk--another rare beauty.
Man of Kent--thank you. 10C today--ah, late spring in the UK.
Justin--man, that is a nice hat. I can see why it's an instant favorite. I wonder how long it's been since that hat saw raindrops?

While walking this afternoon, I snapped this shot of myself and then looked up to see that I had an audience. This is about a half mile from where we live. There have been coyote sightings in our neighborhood, and the presence of deer could also indicate their main predator, the mountain lion, may come around occasionally, too. No reported sightings, though. (Wearing the Lee Corral.)

G, awesome lid, and great shot at the end! At my grandmother's brother's house, deer go in their back yard all the time. Quite lovely animals, they are! Awesome car!!

Good question on the rain, but I'm sure it has been forever. I wore it not expecting rain, and on the walk home, the storm was here, One of those freak incidents. The sad part is, is that where the water is on the front of the hat ribbon, it is now stained. not sure how to remove it, or if it is permanantly a part of the ribbon now... All well, guess we can say the hat has now passed the initiation tests for becoming mine (but if anyone knows how to minimize the stains, please enlighten me).

Seabass, Splintz & GDurant (Did I get everyone, and spell correctly?):

Glad you all liked the british Zephyr. It is heavier than my "new" one, but the felt really is amazing. I would swear it was a 1930's based on the quality of the felt & style, but I know by the liner it is no older than mid 1950's.

I will continue posting the lightweights ad hoc, until I have the time to do an in depth weigh-in.

Sam, great looking Squatter. What is it for a nice jacket that you wear in so much photos!
The jacket's new so I was wearing it frequently. It's also light weight so it works for warmer days than most of my other jackets. It's a Pointer Brand hickory stripe chore coat. I got used to the extra pockets on my vest over the winter and I'm having trouble getting used to not having so many now that summer is here.

Thanks ManofKent & T Jones.
