Still snowing and with snow blowing around in the wind, everything is just white. I don't think we'll be going far today.

My Garrison Indy Hat is great for nasty weather.

I wanted to use Jones in my reply but just can't get it to work. For someone who has avoided the movies, you've got the panache down like a pro. Hope you are safe and sound and getting out from under the blizzard.

Observatory is closed today, so tagged along with a friend who was checking out a favorite old antique dealer. More of a salvage joint than the great places AL shares with us. Managed to slip and punch a nice sized hole into one palm with the point of a standing Calder style mobile (don't ask how) so my picture taking was compromised. Managed to keep the blood off my Stetson clear nutria.

That's an eland... first one I've seen outside of the Natural History Museum and the NY Times crossword. I might have to have that.

Ouch, that sounds nasty, Alan. Better make sure you are current on your Tetanus. Hope it was not too serious a wound, my friend. I would bag that Eland, too. Natural history specimens have such timeless appeal. Our home is a veritable Cabinet Of Curiosities...

Thanks for the concern and good advice AL. Not too serious I think. Had the point been sharper, it would have looked like a scene from an Easter pageant. Will see if I can sell Donna on the eland. It is massive.

DJH, even though the weather is nasty, you still confront it in great style!

Hatophile, that Colonel looks great!

Adam, that longhair looks great and warm!

Tango, nice Lee!!!

Robert, that Homburg is just amazing! That color really pops!

Alan, ouch!Hope you have a quick recovery!

Circuit, that is one great conversion! I like it!

Today, I am going with the 30s Stetson Special Homdora (Homburg into a Fedora, done before my time), and this 70's coat that everyone here hates!

Question for Justin (somewhat off-topic): what makes you think that your Stetson Special used to be a homburg? It came to me along with three other old Stetsons that showed no sign of having been worn or altered in decades. I didn't do anything to it other than steaming and brushing.

I have seen pictures of other Stetson Specials that were homburgs, but that doesn't mean that all Specials were homburgs, does it?

However, I am not an expert. I am curious to know if you found some sign that the hat has been altered, or if you learned something about the history of this kind of hat.

Cool sign. Looks like there's a bunch of others there with it.

Among the stuff I kinda quasi-collect is Cold War/Atomic Era memorabilia. It transports me back to the days of my misspent youth. Had I come across that sign I'd have snapped it up, provided the price was realistic.

There is a plethora of hats over the past few days. I said that I would come back for comments the other day, so I've tried to keep it brief and consolidated...

David - Thank you for your comments on my Beaver Brand conversion!
David (2/7) - Your bluegrass Whippet is an inspiration; I have a Borso coming back from Northwest Hats that will look similar with the new binding.
David (2/8) - GORGEOUS Black Cherry!! Just a stunning hat! :thumb:
David (2/9) - That snow is unbelievable!!! :smow: The Garrison makes up for it, though. And quite the color combination between hat, coat, and scarf. Well done, sir.

Mystic - That monotone Alexander is sharp!

case (2/7) - In that coat you look like your ready to tend to the cattle. Great hat!
case (2/8) - Your Fed IV is always a treat. :yo:

Perry - Thanks for the comments on my homburg. I will keep it as is, and I really like how it shaped up!
Perry (2/7) - SUPER VS, a fine ribbon color!
Perry (2/8) - Cool Campdraft. The brim looks good at that width.
Perry (2/9) - Love the Bond. Glad to see it today, my friend. :)

Robert (2/7) - I'm green with envy for that Barbisio!
Robert (2/8) - Killer fur on that Mouton!!
Robert (2/9) - Your Coronet is a stunner, Robert. I really like the ribbon combo with that felt! A proper homburg, sir.

Alan - I was wearing my Dobbs 15, but I just had to continue the day with the new addition! :) For obvious reasons.
Alan (2/7) - Very nice Bantam; check out that "stingy" binding! Great shot of Lily; tres vintage!
Alan (2/8) - Quite a snow catcher! Beautiful hat, and I love the liner.

Tango (2/8) - Cool custom; I'm eyeing that ribbon!
Tango (2/9) - Lovely Lee Blue Label today.

Randall - Brilliant cap, Chap!! I really miss London!! :tea:

Steve - The shiny black velour on your Zephyr is just breathtaking. I was never a fan of velours until the last few that I've seen, including yours!

Monte - The wide brim and wide lapels go great together.

150 - A black hat is a "must"!

Manfred - Many thanks for the great comments on my homburg and the new NWH conversion!! Your flecked stingy is great; I'm noticing that the upwards taper of your hats are matching the downwards taper of your goatee patch very well! :cool2:

gtdean48 - 47-degrees; we have such random weather in Atlanta. Tropical.

Lotsahats - I already commented on your Resistol, but it's worth commenting again on that fine hat!! Nice one.

Ordinary Guy - THAT is no ordinary hat. Just fabulous!!

Jeff - That blue VS couldn't get anybody down. Heavy thumbs up for that one!! :thumb: Nice $5 helmet and a beautiful 7XCB.

teach - Way to go with the Tumwater; Tony is a craftsman.

Justin - I really like the cap and coat. The 20 is always nice to see. By the way, I seem to notice some gaps between your crown and your temples. I'm wondering if you're a long oval? Doesn't look bad, but you might want to check it out. I had some gaps and found out that I was a long oval, too.

Jared - VS BC. Epic. Period.

deanglen - Those vents are HUGE! It must keep your head VERY cool; almost as cool as that hat, dude! :thumb:

Jed - Hope you stayed warm in that gnarly snow!! Great hat for it.

ottowa - The Biltmore suits you very well.

CircuitRider - A fine conversion and great for snow!!

I didn't look carefully, but I think there was a pile of them. It might take me a bit, but I will go back and see if I can get one for you. They aren't going anywhere and I don't expect they will be expensive.

cheers,
Alan

Hey there! I figure it used to be one, as if I look at the brim, it looks to have a cut mark, and the stiffness of the brim + the brim size match that of my other homburg from the same time period!

AnA, 20? I don't own a 20? I will try to take photos of the coat when I can, but for ideas, it is just a standard waterproof coat. I am unsure if it was made for a female or male, but it is the only thing I could find that would allow my brown Special the ability to leave the storage. Gender aside, it's a very warm coat.

Jared, Your VS Playboy is fantastic! Also looks like nice weather (and a glow of the ribbon!) out your way.
Thanks Steve, it's sunny but quite brisk. Downright tropical compared to the east coast blizzard though!
Yes indeed!
Perry, thank you! I like the brim shaping on the Colonel. Seems aptly named!
Thanks, Jared. I really like the BC/Oxblood colours - including your VS Playboy of course. Super hat!
Thanks David, looks like that Garrison is being put to good use. Though you really should see the movie; "Raiders" is a great film.;)
It's right in between, Jared, so good eye for color. Also that VS Playboy is awesome. I haven't been that partial to the vintage Playboy style, but that VS rocks.
Ahh, both yours and Alan's lighter colored Homburgs have me thinking I might need that stye in the near future. Thanks for the kind words on the VS; it's really Art's magic touch.
Jared, great look with your Playboy!
Thanks Manfred!
Jared - VS BC. Epic. Period.
Thank you sir. Art did a knockout job on this one. It's such a pleasure to wear.
