Just completed some shopping errands (grocery store, coffee shop, liquor store and florist) in preparation for this evening. I am hosting my wife and a couple of friends at our house. The temperature should be below zero ('F) this evening. Below is a quick pic of my VS Wanderer in silverbelly fedora that was worn this afternoon.

Best to all Fedora Loungers! Safe enjoyable New Years Eve to all. Eric -

Not to be disagreeable with anybody's wife.....your hat is not too tall based on the photo & your facial shape. There is symmetry between the crown above the brim line & your jaw line below. Any shorter crowned hat would be off balance. The pinch works with your nose & chin as well.Mike & Rocky know their business...

+1 with GTDean's comment. I really like the fedora - sharp, classy and not at all pretentious. The silverbelly should work with the attire and situations you describe. If the attire and situations change, you can always visit Mike and Rocky for another hat.

BTW, I do like the straw fedora you showcased on another thread. It is dynamite. I do like the kahki ribbon treatment for the warm months. I can see the hat being worn easily.

M-Lawyer, you have chosen some classy and fancy hats sir. I tip my hat in a southern direction this afternoon.

Best, Eric -

Thanks for the inspiration all. First day wearing a real hat... ever. It's a Mallory by Stetson that my wife found in an antique shop. I think I'm hooked. I have a Stylemaster on the way for my birthday.

Rusty, that hat gives me some serious hat-envy.

Great looking first lid, Blade, seriously!

Eric, good hat choice for year's end.

Alan, What was it you were shoveling there in the veldt? :)

Wishing you all a fun NY's Eve!

Hi

It will almost certainly another boring New Years Eve, but I was out buying food to grill (in the snow) and wearing my warmer stuff. The Doc Holliday from Mike Moore gets a few looks, but not that many comments, maybe I look too mean?

You know, Mike, I have the same problem. After 21 years in the Marines, maybe it's military bearing or something. I was once in a Target, and after coincidentally bumping into the same guy for a third time in about 10 minutes or less, I heard him proclaim to his wife, "Let's get the hell out of here, I'm tired of this cop following me around!", while giving me a pretty direct and disapproving glare. I usually find it somewhat beneficial, in that people don't tend to mess around with me!

Alex, that Morelite is a damn good looking hat! You present quite a picture of the square jawed all-American lad wearing it.

Hey Major Mike, why only 3 of those made? They look pretty good.

Rusty, great looking hat, my friend. Nice dimensions.

Che, suave and debonair as always.

Perry, Alan, Manfred, Steve, Dave, Memphis, y'all got some beauties going on. Keep 'em coming. To those I overlooked it was not intentional, just too many to list.

Back to Mike, another good story I laugh about from time to time. I was once on a cross country motorcycle ride and stopped at a rest area. As I walked back out to the bike, a man spoke to me as I passed him. When I turned to respond, I discovered that he didn't want to make eye contact (was, in fact, hesitant to speak much at all) and his wife and child were literally hiding behind him peeking out at me.

I was confused and tried to remain especially courteous as he told me the taillight on my bike was flickering and he didn't want me to get a ticket. I thanked him for his trouble, and went back to the bike wondering what had just occurred. As I stepped to the bike, I glanced at my reflection in the window of the car next to me, and it immediately became clear. He saw NOT the father of two little girls, retired Marine, high school referee; what he saw was a strapping Hell's Angel, complete with bushy goatee, long ponytail, bandanna, dark glasses, leather jacket and boots. I couldn't help but laugh about it, and still think about it from time to time as evidence that we often MIS-judge the book by the cover.

RBH that Moorelite #3 is a beaut'!

1961MJS, love the Doc. That hat looks great on you.

A happy new year to everyone!

Scooter, Che, Perry and David and all the other , thank you very much for all your comments the past year! I appreciate them all!

Mike, the Doc Holliday, is a sharp looking hat and you wear him great!

Alan, wow, great photo. That ribbon and hat are a very sharp looking combination! Made with photoshop?

GREAT hats yesterday, folks!

MANFRED, absolutely spectacular lid!

gtdean, magnificent moonstone!

David, it doesn't get any better than that, buddy!

Alex, I'll second the other favorable comments. Don't let that one go-- really looks great!

1961MJS, comments out in the town or not, that is a thing of true beauty!

Memphis Lawyer, I agree with the others. A perfect match for you! Less symmetrical proportions would likely be even more conspicuous.

Perry, excellent choice!

Eric, that is one of my favorites of yours. Never get tired of seeing it-- what a beautiful color scheme, and super classy-- in fact, top of the class!

I closed the old year with a signature hat of mine: Falcon Park Black Cherry.

Here follows a short montage of my evening...

This OR Royal Deluxe looked better in the photo, and will probably become my hat of the day. Preparations including a jar of Ole Smoky Apple Pie moonshine and a Nicaraguan maduro.

sevefun2012010copy.jpg

Then I boiled up some snow crab for a rare occasion with my wife and kids sitting at the table all at the same time (my daughter's Orbeez centerpiece :) )

Same jacket as in the first pic, reversed as a smoking jacket. :)
