What hat are you waiting for today?

I wasn't planning on bidding on this, but the hat on top looked interesting. Then the neighbor came by to borrow some chain-binders and said he was picking something up tomorrow in a town an hour away and asked if I needed anything while he was there. Well ... since you asked ... and the hat auction is in the same town and pickup is tomorrow. :D

Playing hat roulette again.

Listed as not my size (7), but actually is (7-1/2). That hardly ever happens. I don't know much about the Kemo Sabe brand, but thought this hat from their "Grit" line might be worth a try. Especially for under $30 to my door.

From their web site: "Our Kemo Sabe Grit Design Team has been distressing and customizing Hats since 1990. Specializing in Hats and Hat bands, we have created countless, one-of-a-kind pieces, as unique as each person they’re made especially for. Handmade with love at our Hat Ranch in Gainesville, Texas."

Retail on these run from $395 to $1,595.

For $30. Well worth finding out.

Today I won auction bids on 2 Stetson Real Nutria hats from the same seller. The first and better one is probably 1930's or earlier. The second has significant mothing and is probably 1940's. Normally I wouldn't touch a hat like the second one, but these Real Nutrias are so scarce I couldn't pass it up. I think there's only a half dozen or so documented on the Lounge, other than these.

I’m not much of a homburg man but I have had a 50s St. Regis that I very much enjoyed wearing. I gifted it to a friend just before COVID and never found another one that really grabbed me. I eventually just stopped trying.

But I could not resist this (late 40s? Pre-St Regis?) “Royal Stetson Deluxe”, with stars on both the liner and the sweatband, at a more than reasonable price.

Even if I don’t end up wearing it out much, it will be a valuable addition to my modest collection - it looks to be in almost mint condition.

I had that in my watch list but it was just a little too small for me. I posted a picture of it in ISO post in classifieds as an example of what I’m looking for in my size.

Congrats on an awesome hommie!

Thanks Joe! I can’t afford big bucks for the minty older hats nor to buy and put on shelves, so most of the older ones that I do have are still being used as work hats.

I do have an excellent quality early 50s Gay Prince and a very minty Mallory XV. I suspect this one will join them on the shelf and only come out to play during the holidays.

Thank you Phil!
I almost didn’t take it because it is a homburg, but the price was really fantastic for what it is.

This will have to be my last hat purchase for a while though…. I’m going to have to delete the eBay app!

I don’t think I could ever pull off a homburg but that is a really beautiful hat. Post some pictures of it on!
