As bad as that package looks, imagine my surprise to discover that the seller sent the wrong hat by accident. It was promptly returned to USPS the same day (repackaged). The correct hat arrived today and is now in the freezer:

I just picked up some hats on fleabay. Yes, all are Biltmore hats.

This first one is made in Canada, so an older one. It's to be here in a few days or so.

The seller called it the Orleans model, which is very similar, but I think the Orleans (by that name) was not first made until after the move to the US. I really like the Biltmore "Royal" finish, even though it was not their most pricey.

This next one is a Milan hemp porkpie in a two-tone black and pumice. It too was made in Canada.

Not really sure how well this sort of color arrangement will work for me, but what the heck, I will give it a try.

This is the third fleabay hat I bought in the past 2 days, It is one of the higher level straw hats they made for the Kentucky Derby in 2017. I am not certain of the straw, but I suspect it may be shantung. I am not usually a fan of shantung, but I have some nice Biltmore shantung from their 2017 anniversary line. They, like this one, have vents.

I suppose it could be a toquilla Panama, but not thinking it likely.

I have figured out that the straw hat I just bought and posted above,, from the 2017 Kentucky Derby series, is based on, if not exactly, the "Guelph" model from the Biltmore "Founder's Collection" put out for their 100 year anniversary in 2017. They are described as "Premium Hand Woven Shantung."

I already have 2 hats from this series, the Ramsay C-crown and the MacMillan porkpie. These are really nice hats, very well made. With this new one, I will essentially have three hats from this series, which is fine by me as I don't so much care for the remaining one.

Yes, this is another Biltmore, from their 1917 anniversary line. This is a genuine Panama, but finished in the US of course.

I have come across custom hat makers that specialize in selling customs made from vintage (old) felts. If you can pick up a decent felt for under $50 and repurpose it....it is a good business plan. Especially if the world's supply of felts continues to tighten.

In the process of having a custom lords hat made. The hatter sent me photos of the brim width and the crown height. It’s the same felt in both photos and it shows how differently the color presents. One of the issues of long distance custom hats.
